General Summary of Position
Staffing Office Support Technician will be responsible for patient bed assignment, various nursing support duties and provide coverage for staffing coordinator.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Performs staffing office duties as assigned by DD/PCS/Lead Staffing Nursing Support Tech i.e., receives sick calls from nursing staff, notifies DD/PCS, places calls to staff to address staffing needs, Staffing solution data entry, scheduling changes, etc.
  • Provide appropriate communication to MD (Medical Doctor)/office representative, Patient Registration department, ER (Emergency Room) Charge Nurse, Charge Nurse/designee for Nursing Units regarding patient's personal information and bed assignment. Communicate with Patient Registration department and patient/family to advise them of time of bed availability.
  • Daily after 4 PM and on weekends retrieves and delivers various items to Nursing department as requested, i.e. dietary trays, linen, medical records. Assists with transport of patients, specimens, equipment and supplies as appropriate and assigned by PCS.
  • Communicates accurately maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality. Receives calls for admissions/discharges/transfers (ADT) to/within SMH, completing intake form. Collaborating with DD (Department Director)/PCS (Patient Care Supervisor)/Charge Nurse/designee to obtain bed placement for patients utilizing appropriate policy and procedure.
  • Make hourly rounds/calls to nursing units/charge nurses to update ADT's (Admissions, Discharges, Transfers). Maintain Patient Bed Board (white magnetic board) with current bed availability, patient location and census status. Advise DD/PCS/or designee of Emergency Bed Status.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as required.
  • Participates in the collection of data for Performance Improvement analysis: daily and biweekly HPPD via Excel, daily and monthly reports for agency hours and hourly/daily census collection.
  • Reports actual and potential problems concerning patients, families, staff and their departments to the Patient Care Supervisor or Department Leader. Responds to questions from patient, families and significant others in a prompt, courteous, positive manger, referring them to appropriate personnel if necessary.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED required or
    • equivalent required or
    • active enrollment in Allied Health Votech program or completion of MSMH summer intern program. required and

    Experience

    • Data entry and Microsoft Excel experience preferred and
    • Previous Unit Secretary/Medical Office experience. preferred
