General Summary of Position

The team at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center has a PRN day shift opportunity for a Surgical Services Scheduler. The ideal candidate will have prior surgical scheduling/posting experience and will schedule all surgical procedures for the hospital. They will function as a frontline point of contact for all physicians' offices and will exhibit excellent customer service and organizational skills.

This position is PRN/As-Needed. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Schedules and coordinates all elective surgical procedures allowing adequate time for each procedure according to physician's historical time.
  • Obtains and enters the necessary booking information from surgeon/office requesting surgical time.
  • Attempts to schedule similar types of cases in the same room to increase efficiency.
  • Communicates special equipment, instrument and supply requests to appropriate associates
  • Refers conflicts and procedural questions to OR Clinical Coordinator or designee.
  • Obtains missing patient information, equipment needs, CPT codes and special requests from physician's office for a complete and accurate surgical posting.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Associate's degree preferred.
    • High School Diploma or GED required.

    Experience

    • 1-2 years Clerical experience in a healthcare environment required.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
    • Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.
    • Ability to demonstrate ethical behavior that supports the hospital's mission, values and commitment to compliance with all federal, state and regulatory laws. Inspires trust and exhibits honesty and integrity within the scope of daily activities.

    • Ability to comply with OSHA standards
