General Summary of Position
The System Director of Perioperative Service Line Strategy and Operations is responsible for driving enterprise-wide strategic operational efficiencies, overseeing complex transformation projects, and creating an environment of practice that is conducive to building a culture of operational agility and innovation. The System Director is responsible for supporting the ongoing development of the Perioperative Service Line and its strategic growth and operations in partnership with functional and clinical leaders. The System Director serves as both an execution lead and a trusted executive advisor, orchestrating cross-functional efforts that enable scalable, measurable change across the organization. The System Director executes the related role responsibilities primarily in partnership with the executive leader of the Perioperative Service Line business operations and may be responsible for some or all of the duties summarized in this job description.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • System Project Oversight - Leads and governs system-level transformation initiatives from concept through execution, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, business priorities, and measurable outcomes.
  • Project Scoping & Planning - Serves as the go-to expert for scoping transformation opportunities, defining clear project charters, establishing performance baselines, and identifying success metrics.
  • Strategic Advisory - Provides high-level consulting support to executive stakeholders; helps in navigating complexity; identify growth and improvement opportunities; and solves operational and strategic gaps.
  • Strategic Foresight - Leads and drives strategic growth and advancement across the service line, ensuring alignment between clinical business goals and execution.
  • Leadership - Acts as a force multiplier for the executive team, translating high-level vision into tactical plans and impactful execution. Supports functional leaders with execution and developing sustainment plans for strategic initiatives. Is accountable for key metrics and dashboards for the monitoring of performance and to ensure data-driven decision making.
  • Stakeholder Engagement - Builds strong partnerships across business units, executive leadership, and key operational teams to ensure buy-in, support, and collaboration on all transformation efforts.
  • Business Transformation Liaison - Serves as primary liaison between the Business Transformation team and perioperative service line executive and department leadership teams, ensuring clear communication, regular reporting on progress, and monitoring of related outcomes.
  • Governance & Reporting - Implements effective governance structures and tools to monitor progress; reports on key milestones; escalates risks; and ensures transparency across the enterprise.
  • Step-Change Improvement - Promotes a culture of transformation and continuous improvement, agility, and innovation, continuously identifying ways to improve processes, reduce complexity, and drive value creation.
  • Contributes to the establishment of department goals and strategic priorities; ensures adherence to MedStar Health and departmental policies, procedures, and standards as well as requirements of regulatory and accreditation agencies.
  • Leads and/or acts as a member of quality/performance improvement teams and other departmental committees, as appropriate. Contributes to measure improvements in the operations and performance of the department.
  • Supports the design of the department budget and monitors financial performance as appropriate based on identified strategic/priority goals.

  • Minimal Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in healthcare related field plus equivalent experience required
    • Master's degree in healthcare related field required

    Experience

    • 5-7 years of progressive healthcare management experience and leadership, preferably in service line management. required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Demonstrated track record within leadership roles to include implementing and overseeing initiatives such as quality improvement, patient access and experience, and resource management
    • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to turn insights into action
    • Passionate about enabling sustainable change and challenging the status quo
    • Proven track record of managing large-scale, cross functional initiatives from ideation to execution
    • Deep knowledge of project scoping, change management, and improvement methodologies
    • Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills
    • Ability to influence C-level stakeholders


    This position has a hiring range of $114,004 - $219,960
