Associate Principal - Network Specialist

The Associate Principal - Network Specialist plays a critical role in the planning, design, acquisition, and implementation of Mercy's voice and data network services. This position evaluates business requirements to develop robust networking solutions, conducts comprehensive project planning, and performs cost analysis and vendor comparisons. The role also involves managing infrastructure to ensure high availability, recoverability, performance, and integrity through both maintenance of existing systems and implementation of network enhancements.

 

Required Qualification(s):

 

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: Relevant technical or business work experience. Extensive experience with complex technical environments, including Cisco networking, LAN/WAN, wireless technologies, VoIP, and advanced routing protocols.

 

Technical Skills (Highly Preferred): 

 

Proficiency in:

    • Network automation with tools like Python, Ansible, REST API, or Postman.
    • Monitoring and telemetry in ACI (e.g., Cisco NAE, SNMP, NetFlow, or Syslog).
    • Change control, patching, and lifecycle management of Cisco ACI environments.

Strong understanding of:

    • Layer 2/3 network protocols (BGP, OSPF, STP, HSRP, etc.)
    • Security zones, segmentation, and microsegmentation using ACI contracts.

Familiarity with tools such as: 

    • Cisco DNA Center, Secure Workload (Tetration), or other Cisco DC solutions.

Soft Skills & Competencies:

    • Ability to independently troubleshoot complex ACI-related network issues and work cross-functionally with other IT teams.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documenting designs, policies, and procedures.
    • Strong attention to detail and an analytical mindset for problem-solving in high-availability environments.
    • Experience working in regulated or healthcare environments (preferred).
    • Advanced certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent.
