Overview:

 

Responsible for assisting the Chief Nursing Officer in the delivery of safe, quality and cost efficient care by having competent staff members in the Med Surg and Outpatient Departments. Insures efficient utilization of available resources and meets productivity and/or financial goals. Meets customer service satisfaction goals. Works collaboratively and effectively with other administrative personnel, physicians and staff from other areas throughout the Hospital to enhance communication, share pertinent data and improve processes across the continum.

 

Job Description: 

  Assures the availability of patient care personnel competent to meet patient care requirements. Participates in patient care when needed.

Problem solves and performs follow-up activities to respond to and resolve complex situations that arise with patients/significant others, physicians, management staff in nursing and other departments as appropriate, other healthcare facilities, community resources

Assures the provision of quality patient care by the appropriate mix of licensed and non-licensed staff members.

Continually evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of patient care delivery.

Continually monitors and maintains department within budgetary guidelines.

Participates in unit-based quality improvement activities. Works with the Chief Nursing Officer to develop quality indicators and data collection methods to determine progress toward goals.

Performs analysis of patient requirements for care, and of staff ability to meet patient care needs at least annually. Fosters staff development by assuring that needed skills are obtained.

Develops and maintains effective working relationships with administrative personnel, physicians, physician clinics, and other Hospital Staff members; with patient and significant others. Reviews and oversees workers compensation, and Employee health

Communicates effectively with Hospital and Physician Clinic personnel to share pertinent data, improve patient care processes, and improve the quality of care delivered.

Participates in professional and educational activities.

Investigates and follows up on patient concerns as required.

Interviews potential staff members. Collaborates with the Chief Nursing Officer when appropriate.

Ensures staff evaluations are completed on time.

Intervenes with staff members, when necessary to ensure quality of care, excellent customer service, compliance with department policies, procedures and guidelines, Hospital policies and procedures and all local, state and federal requirements and regulations.

Wears proper personal protective equipment when appropriate. Observes universal
precautions consistently. Wears clothing and Health System badge consistent with
dress code, and attends to personal hygiene to maintain a clean, well-groomed
appearance. Meets Health System attendance standards. Performs related duties as
assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education: Graduate of an approved school of nursing. BSN preferred.
Licensure: Current license in applicable State of practice for Registered Nurse.
Experience: Minimum three years nursing experience. Previous leadership/management experience preferred.
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Certification required within 90 days of hire.
Other: Demonstrates skill in human relations and communications is required. Must have broad understanding of the patient care process and be able to demonstrate clinical expertise in their area of responsibility.
