Overview:

 

This Medication History Tech I role works in the patient care areas to interview patients and patient families to collect the medication history about the patient. Contact outside pharmacies and physician offices to gather patient specific medication history. This person will bring together the different data sets and medication lists into one comprehensive record for the prescribers and nurses to use in the care of the patient.  This person performs assigned duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, vision, values and Mercy Service Standards.


Qualifications:

 

  • Education: High School Diploma. Bachelors degree in health-related field preferred.
  • Licensure: Must be eligible for state pharmacy technician registration in local state.
  • Experience: One or more years of pharmacy experience or relevant medication and patient handling experience.Additional community/retail pharmacy experience is preferred. 
  • Certifications: Eligible for PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification within 6 months of start.  Medication History Collection Certificate preferred.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • The following are expected of an individual in this position:
    • Verbal and non-verbal abilities and proficiency are required to express ideas and views effectively.
    • Ability to relate to people, to win their confidence, and establish support.
    • Ability to plan, and organize activities of the department.
    • Mathematical and calculation ability for medication doses.
    • Familiarity with professional and technical aspects of pharmacy practice.
    • Ability to convey genuine care, warmth, and personal concern when communicating with patients, visitors, physicians, and other employees.
    • Working knowledge of drug names, drug routes of administration, and doses for both legend and over the counter medications.
    • Ability to access hospital based and web based databases and software to collect and record data.
