Job Summary and Qualifications

 Responsible for performing repairs, modifications and testing of plumbing equipment and building plumbing systems in facilities. Will order and maintain an adequate stock of plumbing supplies, materials to perform repairs and preventive maintenance and shop areas shall be kept in a neat and orderly manner. Must be able to make independent judgments' related to the technical aspects of plumbing and be able be highly organized in all working environments and balance all assigned projects related to the plumbing operations for the Department. Will actively supports the Mission and Vision of MHS, demonstrates and promotes all components of the ethics and compliance program and effectively maintains the System's Standards of Care and Practice; Methodist Excellence.   

What you will do in this role: 

  •  Responsible for the repair and preventive maintenance of boilers, pumps, piping systems, valves, hot water generators and building plumbing systems.  
  •  Under supervision of the master plumber, responsible for the installation and testing of all plumbing equipment and building plumbing systems. Must be highly skilled in welding with gas, arc welding, soldering and brazing pipe joints and fittings.
  • Perform repairs and upgrade installations on existing systems to achieve maximum efficiency and optimum operation of the plumbing infrastructure to maintain the best possible level of sanitation to limit pathogenic biological agents for the safety of patients, visitors and staff.   
  • Must be able to weld with gas, arc weld, solder and braze pipe joints and fittings, be highly skilled in the proper use and techniques of sewer augers in the event of drain blockages and actively support and provide the documentation for the Utility Management Plan and Program including mapping of the plumbing distribution systems.  
  • Understands operational characteristics, competency of and maintain tools, metering and equipment in a neat and professional manner  
  • Stay current, practice, demonstrate and be knowledgeable on the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), N.F.P.A. 99 for medical gas systems and O.S.H.A. safety practices as applies to all work and maintenance performed. Also recognizes and maintains knowledge of current Joint Commission and City of San Antonio requirements in regards to plumbing and the Facilities Management environment in general.  
What qualifications you will need:
  •   High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  •   Training and experience: Must have 2-3 years experience in a related job or equal on the job training.
  •   State of Texas Plumbers Apprentice License must be obtained within three months of hire date.   

This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and /or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).

Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital has been nationally recognized for its record setting kidney, liver and pancreas transplant programs. The hospital is home to the Texas Transplant Institute. We are the largest living donor kidney transplant program in the US. In 2019 the center reached a major milestone by performing 231 living donor kidney transplants in a single year. This set a new national record, 65 more transplants than the second center on the list. This is acknowledged in the United Network of Organ Sharing database.
