Description

Job purpose:

Provides for a safe environment for psychiatric patients. May be called on to assist patients with personal care needs (washing/bathing/personal hygiene) under the supervision of a nurse (RN or LPN). Responsible for patient care needs to include assisting patients, nourishment needs if indicated, obtaining vital signs, and communicating constructively, effectively, and timely with other members of the treatment team. Reports back to the nurse any abnormal findings or behavior that is not therapeutic in nature.

  • Knowledge, Skill & Ability(include materials and equipment directly used): Ability to relate in a supportive and non-judgmental manner with persons in distress.
  • Ability to observe and describe behavior and/or symptomatic changes.
  • Willingness to learn or have knowledge of mental illness and psychopathology and associated treatment modalities.
  • Willingness to learn or have or have Working knowledge of Colorado Revised Statutes 27-65 (Mental Health Code).
  • CPR/BLS Certification for Healthcare Provider prior to independent patient care required.
  • CPI Training/Certification required prior to independent patient care required. Must have ability to perform duties required by CPI training to provide verbal de-escalation and physical and mechanical restraints if necessary (Training for certification will be provided).
  • Willingness to learn or have Working knowledge of Windows based computer applications to include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Internet access.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including calculator, copy machine, fax and multi-line telephone.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all personnel.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload in a sometimes hectic environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to exercise frequent independent judgment and initiative.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Employee is frequently required to walk, sit, stand or kneel and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop. Must have ability to sit for longer periods of time at a computer. Employee must be able to travel between Mind Springs sites. May be exposed to stressful situations that involve enraged, distraught and/or intoxicated individuals with possible mental health conditions. Possible exposure to communicable disease. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.



Qualifications

Position qualifications:

Successful completion of an accredited nursing assistant training program, and Certified Nursing Assistant Certification issued by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) required.
