Shift/Hours/Location: Mon-Friday 9am-5pm, Milwaukie, Oregon 

WHAT YOU WILL BE WORKING ON

  • Follow safety procedures and regulations.
  • Work in a team environment and independent, receiving direction from a supervisor or senior scientist(s) to establish priorities and requirements.
  • Contribute to developing new products, modifying existing products, and services for commercial applications based on customer, market, or technology needs.
  • Perform hands-on laboratory experiments to accomplish project goals for the development of new products and applications using well-established good lab practices.
  • Effectively communicate ideas, project goals project status and results to internal technical and managerial audiences; prepare and present summary reports for internal discussion.
  • Maintain a laboratory notebook with detailed observations and records required to reproduce work or support MLI intellectual property goals, such as securing patents.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working towards a Master of Science in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related discipline such as biology or physics.
  • Background in electrochemistry required.
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills including the demonstrated ability to read and implement written work procedures such as MLI Standard Operating Procedures and published standard methods such as ASTM methods, and chemical literature with minimal direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Manage multiple priorities receiving direction from a supervisor or Senior Scientist(s) to establish priorities and requirements.
    • Read, understand, and apply information in Material Safety Data Sheets to ensure safe handling and use of chemicals and laboratory apparatus. 
    • Follow written and verbal instructions in English.
    • Manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously to meet established deadlines.
    • Work as a team and/or independently.
    • Perform tasks with attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

SALARY & BENEFITS

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only.  Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range: $25.00-$27.00/hour.

 Please note, because this is a temporary intern position we would not offer the following benefits: compensation, medical, vision, and dental insurance benefits.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Duties are generally performed indoors in an office/lab. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Employees will work in a covered Process Safety Management (PSM) environment containing threshold quantities of flammable liquids and/or gasses that have a potential for fire or explosion. Employees working in this environment are required to be free from devices that are not considered intrinsically safe. Examples of devices that may not be intrinsically safe include Insulin Pumps, Pacemakers, Pain Management devices, etc. The employee may work in the presence of fumes or airborne particles, hot, toxic, or corrosive chemicals, water, liquids and electrical equipment. When working in the presence of safety hazards, the employee is expected to follow company safety rules and use proper personal protective equipment such as: respirator, protective clothing, safety glasses, safety footwear, etc.
