POSITION SUMMARY: 


The Utility Technician diagnoses and repairs Genie construction equipment. Responsibilities include mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs. The Utility Technician uses diagnostic tools to detect faults in electronics, hydraulics, power train engines, and overall machine performance, occasionally operating machines for assessment. They also disassemble and assemble machine components according to manufacturer specifications using hand and pneumatic tools. This is a hybrid role that assists in the warehouse, when needed.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • The primary responsibility of the technician is to diagnose construction equipment repair needs and perform designated repairs on customer or company- owned machines as directed. Repairs are made on Genie equipment. 
  • Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting 
  • Detection of faults using diagnostic laptop computers, gauges, and instruments in all machine systems: electronics, hydraulics, power train, engines and general machine performance is expected. Occasional operation of machines in the determination of repair need or repair assessment may occur. 
  • Disassemble and assemble machine components to manufacturer's specifications though the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling provided by Genie/SRC 
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, standard operating procedures, work instructions, and work orders to perform required maintenance and service. Research repair needs and order parts as needed
  • Load or unload equipment or components from customer- owned or common carrier vehicles
  • Perform routine and non-routine production duties by following written processes to disassemble core engines, engine components, or to perform assembly on subcomponent parts
  • Responsible for the visual and quantifiable inspection of the final result of the Utility Technician's process
  • Responsible for following written process to paint and package finished goods
  • Maintain better than average attendance, working overtime as needed  
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • One to three years' experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy equipment, Genie preferred. Experience in diagnosing equipment utilizing laptop computers, gauges, and instruments in all machine systems: electronics, hydraulics, power train, engines, and general machine performance is expected. 
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment that requires multitasking while maintaining a high level of organization. 
  • Must demonstrate good problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude, excellent communication skills -- both oral and written, good work habits, above average math, science, and English skills, the ability to read and interpret machine schematics, self-motivation and a desire to perform at one's highest level. 
  • Forklift experience 

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Ensure all QMS (Quality Management System) guidelines and regulations are followed 
  • All employees are required to follow and promote all company and regulatory safety and environmental standards and exhibit safe work practices at all times 
  • Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment): Safety Toe Shoes, Safety Glasses, etc. required at all times in warehouse environment 
  • Follow established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, and continuous quality improvement objectives 
  • Actively participate in and support the principles of Open-Book Management 
  • Possess a positive attitude and promote a positive work environment 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  

The performance of this position requires exposure to atmospheric conditions such as: dust, fumes, noise, and varying temperatures. Working conditions are those of a heavy manufacturing and warehouse environment – long periods of standing, periodic exposure to seasonal heat and cold, noise, working with oils and grease. Work is occasionally performed in an office/desk type setting. 

 

This position is considered a safety sensitive position. Safety sensitive positions are those with tasks or duties the employer reasonably believes could affect the safety and health of the employees or others. Safety sensitive positions, as an example, require activities with hazardous materials and/or operation of a motor vehicle, other vehicle, equipment, machinery, or power tools. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk and hear. Standing 50%; walking/sitting 50%.  The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, or more, is required. 

 

Work is performed in a heavy manufacturing environment where significant safety considerations exist from the use of dangerous equipment, proximity to moving objects, full-body physical labor, and handling of medium-to-heavy weight materials. Required equipment for all operations, included but not limited to: safety toed shoes, safety glasses.
