A Day in the Life of an Intermodal & Automative Operations Supervisor Trainee

 

Starting your journey here at NS means you will be provided with leadership and railroad operations training to launch your career in the fast-paced, exciting career in operations management. Intermodal Operations is part of our Network and Service Management Department, which is the responsible for the efficient, customer-focused operation of the railroad

 

Within Intermodal Operations, you will oversee the safe, efficient and economic operation of intermodal terminals.  The railroad is an around the clock business, so prepare to work unconventional hours in varying weather conditions.  In this “boots on the ground” position, expect to oversee ramp operations, including the supervision of contractor employees. 

 

The Intermodal Operations Supervisor Trainee program is designed to prepare candidates for a supervisory role at one of the Norfolk Southern Intermodal Facilities or promotional opportunities within our Network and Service Management Department.

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree
    • Preferred Degree Paths: All majors considered
  • In Lieu of a Degree: managerial backgrounds ranging from military, heavy industry manufacturing, and auto repair

 

What to Expect in the Work Environment

The nature of our industry requires a supervisor to be on the job weekends, on various shifts and on call.  Supervisors will perform their duties both indoors and outdoors.  Travel will be limited to onboarding training and occasional business travel.
