Description
At NorthBay Health, the MRI Technologist Aide supports MRI services by assisting technologists with patient preparation, safety screening, room readiness, and workflow efficiency. This role contributes to patient comfort, MRI safety, and smooth department operations through direct patient support, environmental maintenance, and administrative assistance. The MRI Technologist Aide performs tasks under the direction of leadership and collaborates with licensed MRI Technologists to provide high‑quality patient care while following established safety protocols, including ACR MRI safety guidelines.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
Conducts initial MRI safety screening interviews to identify potential implants, devices, or contraindications, escalating findings to the technologist for review.
Verifies patient identity and ensures all screening forms are completed accurately before entering MRI Zones III and IV.
Provides education to patients regarding MRI procedures, safety expectations, and preparation steps.
Assists patients with safe transfers between wheelchairs, stretchers, and the MRI table, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices as needed.
Helps patients change clothing as required for exams and ensures secure storage of personal items.
Offers comfort measures, emotional support, and clear communication throughout the pre‑scan process.
Prepares MRI exam rooms by setting up coils, linens, and accessories as directed by the MRI Technologist.
Assists the technologist with patient positioning to ensure proper alignment and comfort.
Supports efficient patient flow by coordinating room turnover, escorting patients, and transporting individuals between areas.
Cleans and sanitizes MRI tables, coils, and equipment surfaces between exams in accordance with infection prevention guidelines.
Restocks linens, supplies, and consumables in MRI rooms and storage areas to maintain readiness.
Monitors supply levels and notifies technologists or management when replenishment is needed.
Assists with scheduling tasks, patient check‑in, and documentation in electronic systems as directed.
Supports data entry and administrative functions that contribute to departmental workflow.
Performs errands, transports materials, and assists with general duties that support daily MRI operations.
Performs other related duties as assigned within scope and competency of the role.
Qualifications
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Licensure/Certifications: Current AHA or equivalent healthcare provider BLS Certification required.
- Experience:
Previous experience in a healthcare or patient‑care support role preferred.
Basic understanding of MRI safety principles, including ACR MRI safety guidelines (training provided on hire).
Familiarity with medical terminology and basic human anatomy.
Awareness of patient privacy and confidentiality standards.

- Hours of Work: Day/Evening Shift. Some afterhours call as needed and appropriate.
