Position Summary:

NRECA's Finance department manages the accounting, financial planning and analysis, and procurement operations across a broad range of businesses that support NRECA and its affiliated organizations, trusts, and other entities. We are a team of dynamic individuals collaborating across NRECA to implement best practices and provide innovative business solutions. We enable the good stewardship of member funds across NRECA by diligently embracing our core values of transparency and fiscal responsibility.

We are searching for a new team member to serve as the senior leader for the Insurance & Financial Service (I&FS) Finance and Accounting Team.  This person will provide comprehensive finance and accounting services related to NRECA's complex multiple employer plans with over $25 billion in net assets.  This role provides the opportunity to work with various stakeholders both within and outside of NRECA. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads and oversees all of the finance and accounting and day-to-day activities of the team supporting the plans including, but not limited to, accounting, budget creation and management, financial forecasting, tax return preparation with an outside firm, financial reporting and disclosures, treasury functions, etc.
  • Serves as a senior leader and advisor in NRECA both within the finance department and externally. Within the Finance department, partners with other finance leaders, participating in decisions affecting other finance units and performing special projects.  
  • Provides service excellence and requires critical collaboration with the I&FS Leadership Team on setting strategy, goals etc. 
  • Coordinates the interaction with, submission of information to, and ongoing monitoring of external third-party service providers that support our plans including the trustee/custodial bank, independent fiduciaries, independent accounting firms, external auditing firms, etc.
  • Oversees compliance required under ERISA, IRS and the DOL.   
Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master's degree in accounting, finance or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and additional experience. 
  • 10 years of experience required in progressive accounting/finance/budgeting experience with 5 years of supervisory management experience  
  • Employee benefit plan administration industry experience (Group Insurance Plans and Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution Retirement Plans)
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of ERISA regulations and financial compliance
  • Experience serving as a financial advisor to executive management 
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to stay organized, set priorities, manage competing deadlines and apply discretion in the execution of all duties and responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in public accounting preferred
  • CPA designation strongly preferred

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
