BASIC FUNCTION:  Under direction of assigned supervisor manage the overall operations of the District's visual and performing arts program to promote and support the District's strategic plan to ensure all students are college and career ready.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: (Incumbents may perform any combination of the essential functions shown below. E = Essential Functions

 

  • Coordinate the development of a core curriculum to align to State Common Core Standards in assigned area.  
  • Develop a coaching protocol for school sites encompassing the work of the Music Specialists.  
  • Support the coordination, development, monitoring, and review of operational systems and processes of assigned area.  
  • Coordinate the development, preparation, and implementation of a variety of professional development opportunities for District personnel and interested parties targeting the department's focus areas integrating the arts into core academic subjects.  
  • Negotiate contracts and manage contractors providing visual and performing arts activities under the jurisdiction of the central department.  
  • Ensure District's compliance with federal, state, and District mandates in the use of categorical funds.  
  • Compile data of visual and performing arts programs to ensure District's compliance with grant funded initiatives and programming within the department.  
  • Facilitate the collaboration of music teacher leaders to build capacity of District's visual and performing arts focus areas.  
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with interested parties to leverage resources for arts education.  
  • Manage the District's inventory of musical instruments and equipment including procurement and distribution, and maintenance and repair.  
  • Coordinate District visual and performing arts events such as elementary, jazz, orchestra, and band festivals.  
  • Collaborate with site administrators to ensure elementary music programs are implemented and meet school and District requirements.  
  • Maintain communication with site administrators and department teachers to promote department activities.  
  • Collaborate with department staff to align teacher support.  
  • Collaborate with department staff to align instructional support with the District's strategic plan.  
  • Mentor and support teachers to improve current teaching practices.  
  • Plan, lead, and/or attend a variety of meetings representing the department.  
  • Train, coach, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff.  
  • Travel to sites when needed.  
  • Perform related duties as assigned. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and five years teaching experience including science instruction, and relevant administrative experience.   

 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Valid California Administrative Services Credential 
  • Valid California (or Out-of-State) Teaching Credential with English Learner authorization
  • Valid California Driver's License
  • Employment eligibility will include fingerprints, tuberculosis and/or other employment clearance

WORKING CONDITIONS

ENVIRONMENT:

 

Office, off-site, and warehouse environment; driving a vehicle to conduct work; fast-paced work; constant interruptions

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Consistent mental alertness; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects up to 30 pounds, occasionally 30+ pounds; bending and twisting at the waist, reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; dexterity of both hands and fingers while performing duties; seeing to read, write and use the computer; hearing and speaking to exchange information, in person or on the telephone, and make presentations.
