Summary:
One of two primary teachers for an assigned group of eight infant and toddlers in a center-based environment. This position is to promote early learning experiences in accordance with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework to align curricula, and professional development to school readiness goals.
Responsibilities:
* Maintain accurate daily records, attendance, dally records, medical log, infant/toddler eating/sleeping toilet information.
* Participate in transitions for children leaving the Early Head Start program for a preschool program or Head Start
* Develop written daily, weekly, and monthly lesson plans in a manner that will develop each child's physical, emotional, intellectual, and social behavior and in accordance with Head Start strategic plan; plan activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills.
* Prepare classroom plans incorporating good physical, and mental health; nutrition; fine and gross motor activities (both teacher-directed and child-inspired); natural and social sciences; safety; music stories; finger plays; and speech/language development, all with a strong emphasis on the Oneida Culture and Language.
* Conduct individual child development assessments using the Teaching Strategies Gold curriculum.
* Provide stimulating activities and experiences in all curriculum areas; avoid activities causing over-stimulation or fatigue.
* Encourage children to communicate in the Oneida and English languages; promote Oneida cultural activities throughout the curriculum.
* Encourage children to develop their independence by assigning responsibilities to individuals and challenging each child with increasingly difficult tasks.
* Instruct children in practices of personal cleanliness and self-care.
* Foster cooperative social behavior; promotes self-expression and appreciation of aesthetic experiences.
* Ensure the cleanliness and safety of materials, classroom, and playgrounds by performing routine inspections.
* Maintain a safe, orderly, attractive, and stimulating physical environment for children. Ensure safety of children by maintaining clear exit for evacuations.
* Assist classroom volunteers and parents in feeling welcomed, comfortable, and involved.
* Maintain effective working relationships with parents by providing opportunities for parent engagement.
* Serve as child/family advocate at Parent Meetings.
* Ensure any necessary modifications to the environment, multiple and varied formats for instruction, individualized accommodations and supports as necessary to support the full participation of children with disabilities
* Provide supports for effective classroom management and positive learning environments; supportive teacher practices; and strategies for supporting children with challenging behaviors and other social, emotional, and mental health concerns.
* Participate in pre-service, in-service, and other on-going training as required by Head Start and Wisconsin Day Care regulations.
* Plan and implement program family activities/events, possibly evenings and/or occasionally on weekends
* Conduct parent conferences four (4) times per year in the form of home visits or center visits.
* Maintain Head Start Records as required by the Head Start Performance Standards.
* Practice excellent customer service skills at all times to include, but not limited to, addressing customer and employee needs courteously and promptly.
* Maintain professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.

Essential:
* Knowledge of Oneida beliefs, practices and family dynamics
* Promote collaborative relationships with local, Tribal programs, and community agencies to provide quality services to children and families
* Knowledge and awareness of the signs of depression, trauma, family violence, Mental Health issues, and homelessness
* Plan and implement group and individual learning experiences that ensure effective curriculum implementation and use of assessment tools to promote children's progress across the Head Start Early Learning Framework as well as state standards
* Ability to supervise infants and toddlers and ensure a safe learning environment including times in classroom, and outdoor play areas
* Knowledge of infant and toddler child development, human development and family services.
* Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, including the ability to work as part of a team and effectively communicate with children and families.
* Ability to work with families of varying economic, social, and ethnic backgrounds.
* Ability to establish rapport with parents formally and informally to encourage their input into activities for their child.
* Serve as a child/family advocate at parent meetings.
* Must be able to travel and attend meetings, trainings, and overnight and out of town, locally & nationally.

* Must obtain Food Handlers upon hire and annually thereafter.
* Civil Rights Training upon hire and annually thereafter.
* Shaken Baby Syndrome certification upon hire and annually thereafter.
* Complete Oneida Certification on Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect training upon hire and annually thereafter.
* Must be CPR and Red Cross First Aide Certified or the ability to obtain within three (3) months of employment. Must maintain CPR and Red Cross First Aide Certification during employment.

A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment.
