Job Summary:

The Academic Success Coach works with faculty and staff to facilitate and support the curricular and co-curricular development and retention of OSU-Oklahoma City students. The Academic Success Coach provides academic support services via individual and small group meetings, workshops, and classroom presentations with the goal of helping students develop and implement strategies to succeed academically.

Essential Job Functions:

Provide high quality academic support services to students, including education regarding time management and organizational skills, study skills, and assistance with task analysis.

Assist students with establishing schedules for completion of academic work and balancing academic responsibilities/requirements with non-academic life. Meet with students to establish these schedules, with periodic follow-up to ensure utilization and progress toward goals.

Assist in the establishment and maintenance of effective systems for monitoring and assessing student support and retention practices and outcomes.

Provide assistance via meetings, emails, and phone calls to students identified as at risk via the early alert system.

Schedule periodic classroom visits to promote the Student Success & Opportunity Center (SSOC) and its services.

Work with the Director of Student Retention and Success and other subject experts to develop, maintain, and deliver student success workshops to be delivered in the SSOC or individual classrooms as requested.

Consult with faculty across campus on best practices in student success and retention in their fields.

Assist students with general questions, computer help, or in connecting with a tutor.

Answer phone calls and check phone messages regularly.

Organize and maintain various files, including confidential files.

Complete all mandatory training and participate in a minimum of two professional development opportunities each year.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Qualification

Minimum Qualifications:

Work Experience:

Minimum of two years working in an academic setting with faculty and staff.

Minimum of two years teaching and/or training experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures.

Knowledge of educational tutoring, principles, practices, techniques, and theory.

Knowledge of student success initiative development and implementation.

Knowledge of student resources, referrals, and services.

Skill in listening to issues, synthesizing information, and reaching sound conclusions.

Skill in presenting ideas and concepts orally and in writing to a diverse audience and adapting communication style to that audience.

Ability to network effectively to forge strong stakeholder relationships that maximize retention efforts.

Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations.

Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail.

Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions and take appropriate action, resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes.

Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Ability to communicate diplomatically, clearly, and effectively, both verbally and in writing to exchange information, give/receive instructions and respond to inquiries appropriately.

Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to a multicultural environment in an effort to work and communicate effectively with all students, faculty, staff, and community partners.

High degree of initiative to work independently and collaborate in a team environment.

Demonstrated knowledge of office technologies including but not limited to office computers, fax machines, scanners, internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.

Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.

Education:

Bachelor's degree or higher.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in education, social work, or human services, or a bachelor's degree with relevant experience assisting high school and college students with academic difficulties.

Two years' experience providing instruction and/or counseling to adult learners in a higher education setting.
