The position of Clinical Therapist calls for an individual with direct experience and skill in assessing and treating co-occurring disorders including mental illness and substance-use disorders, as well as, challenges in primary or secondary support systems. This role includes active engagement and coordination of care with internal resources including psychiatry and community support, as well as, external bodies including the legal system, families, and social support agencies. The position may call for back-up from the Program Director and Program Manager and other therapists, when available. This role requires the individual to be an active and positive member of a dynamic treatment team. Based on setting, special skills and/or work with specific populations may be required. This individual relies on knowledge, experience, and judgment to provide quality services with very little supervision and direction. Must be an individual that holds a license issued by the governing board regulating a human service profession. Some services may require additional experience, licensure, or education.

RHA Health Services is recruiting for a Clinical Therapist - Residential Program for the Mary Benson House. This role provides many opportunities to hone one's clinical skills, including but not limited to: individual and group counseling, treatment planning, assessments, crisis planning, and care coordination with various agencies in our community.

Mary Benson House is a home-like setting located in the historic Montford neighborhood near downtown Asheville. Mary Benson House provides 24-hour residential supports and substance use treatment for adult, pregnant and/or parenting women, and their children from birth to five years old. Our goal is to ensure that healthy babies are born while helping mothers move toward recovery and maintain a stable, sober, independent life with their children. Mary Benson House serves Western North Carolina and receives referrals from various agencies throughout the state of North Carolina.

To support the goals of the mothers at Mary Benson House, the Clinical Therapistprovides direct care to individuals with substance use and/or psychiatric disorders in a residential setting ensuring the safety and well-being of each resident. The ideal Clinical Therapist is a licensed professional who is an excellent communicator and listener with strong therapeutic skills who works well as part of an interdisciplinary team and runs open and productive therapy sessions. We are looking for someone who can be caring, patient, and fair while also supporting and maintaining therapeutic boundaries and program expectations. You must also excel at behavioral interviewing techniques to uncover service user needs and be able to anticipate these needs.

Pay Range: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year

Additional responsibilities of the Clinical Therapist include: 

  • Facilitating relationships and serving as a link between the company, local agencies and the community.
  • Minimizing the negative effects of psychiatric symptoms or substance dependence that interfere with the resident's daily living and personal development, providing supportive counseling.
  • Supporting the resident in the development of various skills including: daily and community living , socialization and interpersonal, adaptation, and behavior and anger management.
  • Participating in a first responder on-call system available to consumers and/or his/her natural support network on a 24/7/365 basis; coordinates “first response" resources according to resident need and treatment plan.
  • Performing case management functions of linking and arranging for services and referrals to support resident's therapeutic needs.
  • Working closely with other clinical/professional staff to maintain communication and provide feedback, standardizing procedures, and expediting PCP implementation.
  • Ensuring that all initial and reauthorizations for services occur in a timely fashion.
  • Monitoring utilization of service to ensure that it is effective, appropriate, and within the limits set forth in both rule, PCP, and the service authorization.
  • Coordinating transition to another level/type of care for the client.

Education, Licensure, and Experience required for the position include:   

  • Graduate degree in Counseling or a related field
  • Valid licensure to provide mental/behavioral healthcare in the state of North Carolina
  • Licenses include LCMHC, LCSW, LCAS, and LPC.
  • Provisional licensure is accepted for this role (LCMHCA, LCSWA, LCASA.)
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with individuals with behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment that includes writing person-centered plans, conducting effective group therapy and providing mental health diagnoses
  • General working knowledge of the human services delivery system in North Carolina
  • Valid driver's license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check
  • Ability to lift between 20 and 50 pounds and meet the physical requirements of performing CPR
  • Employee supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) preferred
  • Some services may require additional experience, licensure, or education.
