Organization Overview

Our Vertebrate Genome Laboratory specializes in high-molecular weight DNA and long-read genomic technologies. The VGL offers both library preparation and sequencing services, including library preparation for high molecular weight gDNA, long amplicons, and full-length transcriptome sequencing (Iso-Seq method), utilizing PacBio, Bionano and 10X Chromium technologies.
Overview

We seek a highly motivated bioinformatician to join the Bioinformatics team of the Vertebrate Genome Laboratory (www.vertebrategenomelab.org), contributing to both the assembly and manual curation of high-quality reference genomes for non-model vertebrate species as part of the Vertebrate Genomes Project (VGP, www.vertebrategenomesproject.org). Responsibilities include working closely with our data production and assembly groups and the broader international scientific community of the VGP to generate, evaluate, and improve high-quality reference genomes, also providing feedback and directly contributing to improving the assembly and manual curation pipelines. The ideal candidate will have a sound knowledge of genomics, ideally with insights into genome assembly, genome curation and genome assembly visualization and analysis software in general.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred, with educational emphasis in computational biology
  • A general knowledge of genomics
  • Familiarity with Unix environment
  • The ability to organize, prioritize and plan a diverse range of work to meet deadlines
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • An investigative and solution-orient mindset and good communication skills, including a good knowledge of English, to work effectively within large national and international scientific consortia

Preferred:

  • Experience in genome assembly and manual curation, genome analysis software, and programming for bioinformatics
  • Proficiency in using different platforms for bioinformatics analysis
  • Previous experience with high-performance computing (e.g. SLURM) and Galaxy (https://usegalaxy.org/)

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on various factors, including but not limited to organizational budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The hiring range provided represents The Rockefeller University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.


Compensation Range: Min

USD $55,000.00/Yr.
Compensation Range: Max

USD $65,000.00/Yr.
