Organization Overview

The Human Resources team at The Rockefeller University handles academic appointments, talent management, employee wellness and benefits, administration and explanation of policies and procedures, affirmative action, employee relations, and immigration. Encouraging employee questions and comments, our team strives to professionally serve our scientific community, offering information on complex immigration updates and general support for all University employee matters.
Overview

Reporting to the Manager of Immigration, the Immigration Specialist interfaces with the institution's academic and administrative populations.


Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Partners with all members of an international population, including maintaining constant communication with new hires regarding visa documents;
  • Assembles documentation, prepares, and files employment-based nonimmigrant visa petitions. Ensures timely and accurate completion of all paperwork; compiles required legal documentation, advises visa holders; serves as an Alternate Responsible Officer for the J-1 visa program and Designated School Official for the F-1 visa program; reviews immigration procedures and legal status of foreign employees; 
  • Oversees case management of H-1B, TN, O-1, and E-3 visa holders. Oversees maintenance of Public Access files and assists with overseeing the university's I-9 compliance;
  • Remains abreast of changes in immigration laws, policies, and regulations to ensure university compliance;
  • Serves as secondary point of contact for employees requiring immigration assistance; Addresses immigration concerns and questions and respond to inquiries with empathy and professionalism;
  • Provides advice and guidance as well as ongoing education and training to the university administrative community on office processes that are in line with immigration regulations pertaining to work permits, visa renewals and permanent residency sponsorship for foreign nationals.
  • Supports data Management and Reporting; Prepares regular reports and analysis to track immigration metrics and provide insights to HR leadership.
  • Additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Position requirements include:

Bachelor's degree 

At least three years of related experience and in-depth knowledge of immigration

High proficiency with Microsoft Office and similar applications 

 

Preferred qualifications include:

Advanced degree preferred

Previous experience in a higher education setting is a plus

 

The ideal candidate must be organized, detail-oriented, able to prioritize, and work independently. Exceptional analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills are necessary. Must be comfortable in a multicultural, multilingual international community.

 

Must be passionate about building connections and networking; have familiarity or interest in Human Resources diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Excellent communication, organization, and writing skills are required. The ability to work efficiently and effectively while maintaining attention to detail is required. Collaborate with humility and emotional maturity within a team dynamic and act with a sense of urgency, accountability, and ownership of responsibilities.

Compensation Range: Min

USD $70,000.00/Yr.
Compensation Range: Max

USD $85,000.00/Yr.
