Roush has an immediate need for an enthusiastic Manufacturing Engineer to join our team! The Manufacturing Engineer (ME) is responsible for manufacturing engineering assignments associated with production control, tooling, quality, process layout, optimum manufacturing methods, and the most efficient use of labor. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will work with experienced product engineers and designers, recommending product changes for improvements to product cost, production processes, methods and controls to ensure that products are produced on time, at competitive costs and within safety and quality requirements. This position is in Livonia, MI.

Responsibilities

  • Performs build audits to define and validate manufacturing and assembly plans collaboratively with operations & quality engineering departments
  • Support defining the manufacturing and assembly budgets ensuring its application and adherence, and tracking cost to pre-approved budget
  • Assist in proposal development for new business opportunities and define, develop and implement the required build/process documentation records for a given project
  • Develop a manufacturing bill of materials for program part coordinators to enter into manufacturing ERP
  • Finalize and implement manufacturing/assembly process at drawing release and create and implement PFMEAs as required
  • Responsible for manufacturing and assembly phases of the program to ensure it is within allotted budget and meeting applicable customer defined program milestone dates
  • Reviews product designs proposed by the design team to ensure they are feasible and economical to produce in the manufacturing and assembly facilities and processes available and identify opportunities for error-proofing/poke-yoke solutions
  • Define requirements for project facility needs to meet manufacturing and assembly requirements
  • Reviews and provides input into the development of manufacturing and assembly tooling for programs
  • Responsible for defining project fixturing, tools and equipment
  • Provide engineering support in production department to troubleshoot and resolve technical build and quality issues as they arise
  • Supports program team as required for program review meetings with the customer and works with program manager to immediately identify changes in project scope in accordance with contract requirements
  • Communicate manufacturing and assembly program status (financials, health, forecast, issues, risks, etc.) to the program manager and senior management in an open and honest fashion
  • Responsible to support department quality system and follow any procedures or work instructions provided for assigned projects

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical or industrial engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in product/process development and/or manufacturing development for component level and assembled products
  • Experience developing product design strategies & studies to aide product manufacturing and assembly
  • Must be a self-starter, exhibit excellent organizational, problem solving and analytical skills, high standards with attention to detail and strong time management skills
  • Must demonstrate high levels of interpersonal communication skills with the ability to impact and influence others
  • Experience defining and developing tooling and fixture needs for component and assembled products
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel and MS Project and experience with CAD software
  • Preferred experience in PFMEA facilitation and development
  • Exposure and understanding of vehicle assembly with focus on electric power and controls systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of composite structures, their design and manufacture
  • May require occasional travel to client sites (up to 25%)
