Make a difference for national security by joining a team of dedicated professionals in supporting the Space Development Agency (SDA) in developing, testing and deploying Battle Management Command, Control, and Communications (BMC3) software for the National Defense Space Architecture (NDSA). Utilize software development and testing capabilities to rapidly integrate and field secure mission applications developed by BMC3 ecosystem participants to the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA). 

SAIC has an immediate need for a Field Test Engineer with experience in software (SW) and hardware (HW) development, integration, operations, and maintenance for space and ground systems. We are seeking an innovative and motivated individual to be SAIC's on-site representative to plan and execute testing, maintenance, and operations in the BMC3 test lab at Grand Forks Air Force Base, ND. The ideal candidate will assist in integrating and deploying applications within the BMC3 ecosystem to ensure they meet required standards.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute testing, maintenance, and operations integration of the BMC3 test hardware and applications.

  • Create and execute test plans and procedures, perform data collection and analysis, and author test reports to support BMC3 AppFac, SW, and HW testing.

  • Configure, operate and maintain a variety of Satellite Engineering Development Units (EDU).

  • Assess and onboard BMC3 application development teams to ensure their code meets security standards necessary for integration and deployment.

  • Provide inputs on ground system development, apply engineering development and testing inputs.

  • Support training and validation for operational procedures development.

  • Operate BMC3 ground hardware and applications from the SDA SNOCs (Space Networking Operations Centers).

  • Support resolution of anomalous conditions and coordinate with BMC3 Application Developers during application anomaly response.

  • Participate in continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) operations support for the BMC3 ecosystem.

  • Collaborate with prime contractors, other team contractors, government civilians, and members of the SDA and U.S. Space Force on development and operational matters.

Qualifications

Required Experience, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 5-10 years of relevant experience.

  • Current DoD TS/SCI clearance.

  • Proven experience in an operations role, preferably within space systems operations.

  • Experience with software testing, development work, or system integration in a Linux environment.

  • Experience with Docker and K3S integration.

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, C++, C, Rust, Java, and JavaScript.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience with complex or parallel problems.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to thrive in a dynamic operational environment.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to pivot as necessary.

  • Collaborative mindset with a focus on internal continuous process improvement and external customer interactions.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in systems engineering, testing, and integration with hardware and software systems.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based systems, operating systems, databases, networking, firewalls, Network Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS), and host-based IDS/IPS.

  • A background in working with Space Force/Air Force/DoD customers, particularly in an acquisition environment.

  • Advanced Degree in Science, Engineering, or related STEM fields.
