SAIC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Senior Principal to join our team of professionals executing complex system integration efforts for the Navy and United States Marines Corps in Charleston, SC.

Job Duties:

  • Develops static and dynamic design and analysis of complex Naval systems, equipment and packages.  
  • Conducts feasibility studies and concepts validated through laboratory testing on new and modified designs.
  • Directs support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication. Provides design information to drafting for packaging documentation.  Reviews designs for compliance with ASME standards and adequacy of applied GD&T.  Responsible for design and release of assigned subsystems within a product lifecycle management tool.  Manages bill of materials (BOM).
  • Applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines.  Domain expertise will span pneumatic, hydraulic, structural, electrical, software/controls, and electro-mechanical functional areas.
  • Develops technical solutions to complex problems, which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.  System designs will require emulation of shipboard systems through integration of special effects.
  • Guides the successful completion of major programs. Represents organization as technical contact on contracts and projects. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree and fourteen (14) years or more experience
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks CAD tools.

Desired Skills:

  • Structural Design experience
  • Knowledge of Solidworks add-ins for Finite Element Analysis and Piping is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of GD&T application in accordance with ASME Standards.
  • Familiarity with ASME Piping Standards and American Weld Society Standards.
  • Knowledge with AutoCAD Revit Building Information Modeling Tools.
  • Professional Engineering License in South Carolina.
