Description
SAIC is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join and support our team in San Diego, CA, must be local to area.
This role does require sporadic travel up to 25%+ of the time.
JOB DUTIES:
- Primary responsibilities for this position include integrating newly installed NavyCash equipment on US Navy Ships into their respective networks, conducting testing to verify operation following installation and integration, conducting system administration training, and providing support for the system once it's operational.
- Integration of the system on board ship involves verifying network connectivity for all system components, ensuring each component is operating correctly, and completing a SOVT and PRT. This is typically a two week evolution, and for work outside San Diego travel may be on the weekends.
- System admin training is provided on site, hands-on during shipboard integration, and is also provided at various times in a classroom environment utilizing power point slides.
- System support involves handling trouble calls generated by end users experiencing issues. Trouble calls are ideally resolved via email and occasionally phone. When issues cannot be resolved remotely an on-site visit will be made to resolve the issue. Another aspect of support is testing equipment returned from the fleet and determining if it should be returned to inventory, sent back to the manufacture, or disposed of.
Will also be responsible to perform service calls on board Ships. These are three-to-five-day evolution's in which the system is fully tested and all issues encountered are resolved. Hands-on system administration training is also provided during these visits. For out of town Ships, service calls are often scheduled in conjunction with a Shipboard integration scheduled on a different Ship in the same location, so the total trip time may increase from 2 weeks to 3 - 4 weeks.
