SAIC is on the lookout for a dynamic and innovative Software Systems Engineer for the Horizon 2 contract, aimed at bolstering the US Space Force (USSF) in developing and deploying critical warfighter capabilities within the Program Executive Office's Battle Management Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence portfolio in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Horizon 2 contract plays a pivotal role in furnishing the Government with top-tier Advisory and Assistance Services, aiding program offices in acquiring cutting-edge space systems. We're seeking subject matter experts with robust experience in software system development and integration for major defense programs. As a member of our forward-thinking team, you will navigate the intricacies of system requirements, driving the full lifecycle development of software systems. You will also create impactful presentation materials, status briefings, and strategic communications to assist government customers in achieving favorable outcomes, while developing comprehensive software development plans and execution documents tailored to DoDI 5000.02, Adaptive Acquisition Framework, and relevant DoD, AF, and SSC policies.
The responsibilities for this positions include:
- Provide expert advice to the Program Manager and Senior Space Force Leadership regarding acquisition strategies, contracting, budgeting, and execution
- Drive a strategy for migration from a mixed cloud/on-premise environment to a multi-hybrid cloud environment to include design, documentation, and briefings to senior leaders and stakeholders to drive stability, resiliency, scalability, and flexibility into the BMC3 ground systems architecture.
- Contribute to development/coordination of acquisition planning briefings and documents (AoA, ASP, ASD, J&A, etc.)
- Support various systems architecting and engineering activities, including system requirements definition, design, interface management, data architecture development, verification and validation, integration, performance analysis, lifecycle cost analysis and estimation, decision analysis, and physical configuration assessments.
- Assist the government with transition from prototype software systems to scalable enterprise microservice enabled applications ready for operational units.
- Develop/coordinate overarching program planning and execution documents as prescribed by/tailored from DoDI 5000.02, Adaptive Acquisition Framework, and relevant DoD, AF, and SSC policies
- Draft technical evaluations and function as an advisor in source selections
- Provide technical and programmatic assessments of contractor designs and milestone reviews to assess progress, risks and issues, and the ability to achieve mission requirements
Qualifications
This is you:- Bachelor's degree and minimum of 15 years of related experience with:
- Commercial experience with industry standard software dev practices (Agile, DevSecOps, etc.).
- Experience implementing of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) tools.
- Commercial experience with industry standard software dev practices (Agile, DevSecOps, etc.).
- Must have an in-scope security background investigation (T5 or SSBI), adjudicated for SCI eligibility and enrolled in the Continuous Evaluation program (if applicable).
- Must be willing to be nominated for access to Sensitive Compartment Information and Special Access Programs and willing to consent to a Polygraph examination.

- Experience within the National Security Space domain.
- Experience managing and interpreting software dev metrics.
- Development of a combination of expert engineering knowledge enterprise IT solutions to design, develop and/or implement solutions to ensure they are consistent with architecture policies and best practices.
- Understanding of software changes and configuration management policies, implementing changes within pipeline development. (e.g. access management, monitoring, configuration management, etc.).
- Research and evaluates capabilities, tools, and products against operational requirements and introduces them to align with the overarching strategy.
- Experience with Cloud platforms like AWS, GCP and Azure, familiarity with Kubernetes, Online Services, and Active Directory, confluence, JIRA and or smart sheets.
- Application Programming Interface (API) development/management
Target salary range: $160,001 - $200,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
