SAIC is seeking a Space Protection Mission Engineer Lead to join the Space and Intelligence Business Group providing Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) services to a rapidly expanding Government Intelligence Community (IC) customer. The customer is developing the next generation of space and ground systems, architectures, and hardware and software solutions.

The Space Protection Mission Engineer Lead will direct SETA engineering staff who serve as mission-related subject matter experts (SME) and System Program Office (SPO) representatives coordinating with development contractor and stakeholders (including end user operators) for deployment of new space protection capabilities. The Space Protection Mission Engineer Lead also directs a team of SMEs performing systems engineering management functions for architecture, requirements, schedule, configuration control, risk, life cycle readiness, interface, and transition.

The Space Protection Mission Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Primary SME for customer Chief Engineer, leading ~25 person SPO Mission Engineering team.
  • Provides oversight and guidance on execution of systems engineering functions, software development, implementation, and deployment of ground processing capabilities in support of space protection.
  • Coordinates with other SPOs and stakeholders to develop and document multi-segment space protection concept of operations that includes the capabilities and interfaces required by space operators to safeguard space assets and advance the nation's space resiliency posture.
  • Collaborates with other SMEs to develop technical plans and documentation, advise the customer on technical progress of the acquisition, and support the integration of ground processing systems with space systems.
  • Oversees enterprise requirements processes to include traceability with and decomposition of lower-level acquisition office requirements, requirements sell-off to external stakeholders, and Request for Change (RFC) impact assessments.
  • Supports Contracting Officer Technical Representative(s) and developers to refine requirements, designs, and testing capabilities to meet user needs.
  • Produces and presents recommendations and briefings to engineering boards within the context of engineering and acquisition trade spaces.

·       Represents the SPO as a technical SME during internal and external engagements.

Qualifications

 Required Qualifications:

·       Bachelor's and 14 or more years of experience; master's and 12 or more years of experience; PhD and 9 or more years of experience.

·       Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with Poly.

·       3+ years' experience using, developing, testing, or fielding space and/or ground software systems.

·       Experience leading Government System Engineering disciplines, including requirements development and management, readiness, or testing.

·       Exceptional communication and coordination skills.

·       Experience in space domain awareness system development and/or operations

·       Familiarity with Confluence and JIRA.

Desired Qualifications:

·       Experience with guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C), space protection, flight safety, and/or collision avoidance and associated software tools.

  • Familiarity with NRO's Systems Engineering Directorate (SED) and its Requirements Development/Management, RFC, and Lifecycle Readiness processes.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies to include participation in scrums, development of solution epics/features, and continuous integration/continuous deployment.
