For SAIC's contractual support to the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) Directorate, the Training Specialist 1 position teaches NASA Workmanship Standards courses and IPC Courses, such as Through Hole Soldering and Surface Mount Technologies, to NASA/contractor engineering and technician staff. The Training Specialist 1 teaches courses in support of a Training Lead, who will mentor and oversee their progression as an instructor. Training Specialist 1 support tasks include but are not limited to the following:

1. Obtain Level B instructor certification in the NASA Workmanship Standards and CIT Certifications in the necessary IPC standards and/or maintain such certifications. This requires approximately 2 to 3 weeks of travel to the NASA Level A training centers and IPC training center every other year.

2. Teach courses included in the Workmanship Standards and IPC suite defined in NASA Std. 8739.6.

3. Support the Training Lead in development of new lesson plans and updates to training materials.

4. Maintenance of classroom equipment and facilities.

Qualifications

Required Education/Background:

· High School Degree.

· Candidate must be a US Citizen

· A minimum of 3-5 years of related technical experience in performing technical tasks such as soldering, fiber optics, electronics cabling and harnessing, electronics assembly, processing, and inspection.

Required skills:

· PC literacy with proficiency in the use of Microsoft office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

· Strong presentation skills in technical forums/classroom.

· Adaptability and flexibility regarding changes in task assignments and deadlines.

· Ability to work both independently and as a team.

· Ability to receive and execute specific assignments with minimal supervision.

· Ability to maintain positive working relationships with NASA customer, peers, and manager/supervisor.

· Must be willing to travel as defined above.

Desired Experience:

· Prior experience supporting NASA projects from a hardware perspective.

· Prior experience with design, inspection, testing, and/or certification of spaceflight rated electronics.

· Prior experience/training certifications in any of the NASA Workmanship Standards.

· Prior experience training/mentoring technicians in best practices and standards as applied to industry and/or NASA standards.
