The Business Insights Analyst will partner closely with business users in the area they support to design and develop analytical solutions that empower data-driven decisions.
Our roles are designed for progression and development from entry-level Business Insights Analyst through to Senior Business Insights Analyst. Progression is based on technical skills, ability to lead projects with minimal direction, and development of business partner relationships.
We expect the person in this role to continuously develop their business acumen, project management, ability to lead initiatives, and relationships for cross-functional collaboration.
Build and maintain strong relationships and strategic alignment with leadership across production planning, sourcing, logistics, customer service or other supply chain functions
Manage project lifecycles to develop or enhance analytical solutions such as reports or dashboards including:
Understand and translate complex business needs into requirements
Assess business requirements against capabilities in the business intelligence environment, including availability and quality of data and / or functionality of analytics or visualization software
Manage project phases, timelines, and customer expectations with direction appropriate to seniority, Associate through Senior Analyst
Prepare structured or unstructured data for analysis, collaborate with IT on data engineering work needed to provision new data sources or ETL pipelines
Create user friendly dashboards and reports that enable business users to make data driven decisions
Deploy developed solutions to business users with appropriate documentation, training, and support.
Demonstrate excellent technical proficiency and leverage technical skills to build dashboards or reports
Preferred experience in SQL, Tableau, or Splunk
Develops understanding of Shaw's data infrastructure and data sources relevant to the supported business area
Applies discretion and judgment to select the appropriate data and technologies to meet business requirements
Demonstrates ability to learn new skills and languages independently
Uses industry best practices for visualization design
Contributes to building a community of engaged power users in the business
Develops training, shares best practices, coaches business users, and plans events that increase engagement
Uses data to drive adoption and use of analytical tools by business users
Develops and continuously updates understanding of the needs and challenges of business users, engages empathetically to improve the use of solutions and user experience
Contributes insights and perspective to strategic teams across the enterprise to shape the enterprise analytics strategy
The Senior Business Insights Analyst will be expected to coach and support other analysts within the group

Bachelor's Degree in an analytical field (e.g. Supply Chain, Business, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics) or equivalent relevant professional experience
The senior analyst role requires at least three years of experience leading projects to design, develop, and implement descriptive and/or predictive analytics solutions, using any of SQL, Tableau, Qlik, Business Objects, Splunk, R, or Python or equivalent tools
The role may be filled as an associate to senior analyst depending on years of experience and professional qualifications
Experience manipulating and analyzing structured and unstructured data, experience specifying requirements to provision new data sources
Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of project lifecycle, apply discretion and business acumen to adapt to changing business environments and strategy. Independently manage complex cross-functional, interdisciplinary projects, teams, and resources
Ability to translate complex business needs expressed by non-technical business users into technical requirements. Able to identify gaps in technical capabilities and address them to meet user needs.
Coach and support business power users through training, one on one coaching, or engagement events. Advise business partners on analytical talent development within their user community.
Drive adoption of best practices, contribute to strategic teams focused on analytics with enterprise scope, coach and support other BI analysts
Apply business acumen to create and strengthen strategic partnerships with business stakeholders and power users to drive innovation and competitive advantage for the supported business unit
Based on the experience level of the candidate selected, the position may be filled as an Analyst or Sr Analyst.
