Position Summary:
The Manufacturing Automation Engineer I plans/specs/designs automation equipment/process, assembly tooling, and assembly line layout to coordinate activities for New Product Introduction (NPI) and continuation projects. Ensures process design supports manufacturing of products that meet quality standards while minimizing production problems and costs. Develops and maintains manufacturing line layouts for maximizing space, efficiency, and effectiveness. Ensures compliance with industry safety and design standards and guidelines. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of engineering projects. Work is independent and collaborative in nature.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Engineering Responsibilities:
*Manufacturing tooling design and integration.
*Involved in automation projects including concept work, equipment specification, project management, factory acceptance testing, installation, and commissioning/debug.
*Tooling design with CAD, SolidWorks preferred, with understanding of CNC machining or CAM a plus.
*Knowledge of using vision systems for integrated quality control and process step verification.
*Responsible for identifying projects to increase production capacity and improve product quality.
*Identify potential process improvement projects, design and develop programs to address findings.
*Develops/reviews/maintains/update related documentation, files, procedures, databases, drawings and schematics in order to ensure integrity of unit instrument and process control technologies.
*Build prototypes to prove complex/high-risk processes prior to final design.
*Lean Process design.
*Work with Product Designers, Project Managers, and Manufacturing personnel to refine product and equipment designs.
*Complete assigned work within agreed upon schedule and budget while maintaining high level of quality.

Manufacturing Operations Support:
*Develop and implement long term plans for process control improvements.
*Guide and train designated employees on process control methodology to assist process control improvement efforts.
*Develop/modify procedures & training guidelines as needed for automation processes, including training of setup and maintenance personnel.
Project Management:
*Provide communication to all project team members and functional managers such that the project objectives are clear, responsibilities are understood, and progress is tracked and reported.
*Provides project team input on system capabilities and assist teams with system design decisions.

Technical:
*Solid knowledge in the Automation/Electrical Engineering Design field, with technical experience in the design, optimization, and build of automation equipment.
*Interface with mechanical team to control the architecture design and implementation, ensuring the correct support of motion controller configuration, setup, fine tuning, data collection, data analysis and reporting, and equipment safety requirements.

Education and/or Experience:
*Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Automation, Electrical or other related engineering discipline.
*Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Instrumentation & Process Control engineering concepts and design including circuits, control systems, as well as a general knowledge of mechanical equipment and systems.
*Demonstrated knowledge in the principles of operation, reliability and performance characteristics of process measurement instrumentation, analyzers, control valves, and VFDs.
*Experience with PLC's/HMI, robots, motion controls and associated programming software.
*Demonstrated ability to meet demanding deadlines.
*Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member to accomplish objectives.
*Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities.
*Required to have practical hands-on experience with equipment, machining, and general fabrication practices.
*Firearm and sports optics experience along with a knowledge of the shooting sports industry strongly preferred.
*Occasional travel required.

Working Conditions:
*Able to lift up to 40 pounds
*Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which is required in designated areas.
