Quality Inspector, Military Products

1st Shift

Position Summary:
Responsible for all aspects of quality inspection of ammunition components, tooling and production processes, using traditional and advanced metrology tools and techniques. Highly knowledgeable and experienced in common metrology; drawing interpretation using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T); instrument calibration; inspection planning; and measurement support for problem solving activities. Includes production support; data collection and analysis; troubleshooting and root cause analysis; and workplace organization and safety.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
*Plan and work efficient/effective within the planning and performance of routine and non-routine visual inspection using pre-determined methods for product acceptability with minimal supervision for all *Military product for each LAT.
*Utilize specialized inspection equipment, Micrometers, Optical comparators and vision systems will be primary responsibilities to measure Military products for specific characteristics as determine by contractual requirements.
*Support Military Packing operation by Inspecting all packaged, crated and palletized product prior to shipping.
*Support production via reviewing/explaining of inspection data to assure integrity of the production process and begin the investigation/resolve of discrepancies found during part inspection.
*Using the company operating system to document product discrepancies, generate inquiries, perform movement of material, create job routings and any other function required to perform job duties.
*When required: provide data and analysis to MRB to support resolution of issues, provide initial data to support contact of supplier (internal and external) and notification of customer (internal and external) of resolution.
*Implementation of expedient methods of inspection in order to maintain product flow in accordance with company directives. This includes assistance in the development of fixtures and gauges.
*Using corrective action system and subsequent follow up process to resolve deficiencies found during job function for both Receiving and or In-process Inspection.
*Communicate effectively to all supervision regarding problems and corrective action.
*Seek and act upon ways to improve daily work processes to enhance quality and productivity and satisfy customer needs and expectations; look for cost reduction and service improvements; eliminate unnecessary or low priority work; initiate and encourage others to resolve impediments and act on improvement opportunities.
*Other duties as required.

Secondary Responsibilities:
*Participate on problem solving teams for driving to root cause of internal and external quality failures, particularly related to prevention of customer escapes.
*Participate in 5S Workplace organizational activities and maintain the area in good working order through sustainment activities, including requests for maintenance assistance when needed.

Education and/or Experience:
*1-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. *Includes proficiency with traditional measuring devices (eg, indicators, height gages, calipers, micrometers, vision systems).
*Drawing/blueprint reading, including working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
*Solid and demonstrable working knowledge of calibration systems, including standards and principles.
*Basic knowledge of statistics, measurement systems analysis (MSA) and statistical process control, including applications.
*Basic knowledge of structured problem solving and process improvement tools (such as fishbone diagrams, flowcharts, check sheets, histograms, control charts, Pareto charts and scatter diagrams); and plan-do-check-act (PDCA) cycles.
*Entry level understanding of company product to facilitate use of judgement in determining product acceptability in subjective situations.
*Rudimentary knowledge of components, assemblies and product form, fit and function.
*Basic MS Word and Excel skills.

Working Conditions:
*Able to lift up to 40 pounds.
*Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which is required in designated areas.
*ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) status a big plus.
*Knowledge of Mil-STD-636B a plus.
