Overview

As of July 14, 2025, the step 1 rate for pay grade 25 will be $30.92 per hour.

 

This position will lead interdisciplinary long-range land management planning processes for select lands owned and managed by the Agency of Natural Resources (Agency), including State Forests and Wildlife Management Areas. Work principally involves coordinating and executing complex land management planning processes in conjunction with other Agency staff including writing management plans, conducting natural resource field assessments, and leading the public engagement phases of management planning. This position presents an opportunity to engage as a leader in planning for management of Vermont's public lands. Individuals with general natural resource expertise or specialization in wildlife biology, forestry, recreation or ecology and public engagement expertise are encouraged to apply.

Who May Apply

This position, ANR Lands Planner - Limited Service (Job Requisition #52883), is open to all State employees and external applicants. It is a Limited Service position, which is non-tenured and authorized for a specific period of time. Limited Service positions are established for specially funded projects or programs.

Environmental Factors

Normal office working conditions generally apply. Incumbents must be prepared to attend meetings at locations throughout Vermont, conferences or seminars which may occur outside normal working hours. Private means of transportation may be required for travel to public meetings, field sites and ANR district offices. Interaction with a variety of people including making public presentations and facilitating stakeholder engagement meetings, which may involve expressions of strong differences of opinion about plan content / goals. Represents the Agency at various hearings and meetings. 

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in planning, natural resources, recreation management, land use, public administration, or related field.

OR

Bachelor's degree or higher in planning, natural resources, recreation management, land use, public administration AND four (4) years of experience in land management planning, natural resources or recreation planning.

OR

Six (6) years of experience in land management planning, natural resources or recreation planning.

Preferred Qualifications

Coursework in natural resources, land use or community planning, public administration, or GIS.
