The Geotechnical Engineering Section at the Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented, multi-tasker who enjoys working with people and splitting time between the office and the field, overseeing geotechnical field operations. This position will be supervisory, leading a team of specialists providing services in the areas of drilling, sampling, instrumentation installation, monitoring, hand probing, and laboratory soil testing. Specific duties include project layouts and logistics, on-site meetings, project, and staff scheduling, quality assurance of field activities and data acquisition, establishing and overseeing safety operating procedures, tracking equipment inventory and ordering, and field logging of samples. Responsibilities also include monitoring project budgets, controlling costs, tracking production, and developing processes to assure schedule and cost targets are met. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and organizational skills, be willing to problem solve, and have enthusiasm for being a team leader.Who May Apply

Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Bachelor's degree in civil engineering OR Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) AND five (5) years or more of professional experience in civil engineering, including or supplemented by two years of supervisory experience.
Bachelor's degree in any field of engineering AND six (6) years or more of professional civil engineering work, including or supplemented by two years of supervisory experience.
Four (4) years or more as a Civil Engineer V in the Agency of Transportation with the State of Vermont.
Master's degree in civil engineering AND three (3) years or more of professional experience in civil engineering, including or supplemented by two years of supervisory experience.Special Requirements
