Overview

The Vermont Agency of Digital Services is seeking a highly skilled technology leader who is equally adept at working with executive business leaders and technology professionals that are immersed in the details. The Deputy Director of Shared Services plays a critical role supporting the Shared Services Director in driving growth and quality improvement of the services that are provided by the Shared Services Division. A relentless focus on driving variability out of information technology (IT) delivery through standardization and process improvement is essential for success in this role. Equally important is a solid understanding of some of the challenges facing State government organizations and the ability to use those insights to develop and refine the delivery of IT services to improve Vermont State Government's ability to meet the needs of Vermonters and other constituents. The primary responsibilities are the Tactical and Operational aspects of the Shared Services Division and contributing to the Strategic direction of the Agency of Digital Services. 

 

This role is responsible for directing the activities of multiple technology teams and supporting these teams with technical expertise and guidance in both steady state and project-related work efforts. This includes responsibility for managing performance, recruitment, retention, and facilitating the career growth of the Shared Services staff. This role also ensures that the activities and outcomes of the Shared Services Division are compliant with applicable rules, policies, and regulations. Additionally, this role is responsible for managing technology projects within the Shared Services Division, including oversight of project teams and management of project risk, to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget. This position will be responsible for 5 direct reports and approximately 50 indirect reports.

 

The Agency of Digital Services supports a hybrid work environment. While regular (weekly) on site work should be expected, a mixed telework/onsite schedule may be available upon approval by the Director of Shared Services. This position is based in Montpelier, Vermont. Some travel may be required for which private means of transportation should be available.

Environmental Factors

Most work is performed in a standard office setting and there is considerable interaction with high level managers and staff, as well as occasional work with other State agencies, interest groups, regional and/or national groups. Work outside of regular 7:45am - 4:30pm schedule can be anticipated.

Minimum Qualifications

Ten (10) years or more experience in computer sciences, business administration, public administration, mathematics, technical operations management or providing support to staff within an IT environment.

 

OR

 

Four (4) years or more in an IT Manager role with a combination of experience in computer operations, information technology management/administration or supervisory responsibilities.
