Overview

The Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation (FPR) is seeking to hire a temporary employee to finalize the Vermont Protected Lands Dataset (VPLD) for the purpose of quantitative reporting tasked to VHCB & ANR to meet Act 59's requirements.

 

The VPLD is designed to help track the amount, type, and extent of protected lands statewide and is the foundation of the Act 59 Conserved Lands Inventory. This position will take the lead on cleaning the data to improve the accuracy of our reporting and will solicit contributions from smaller conservation organizations and incorporate their data into the full dataset.

Who May Apply

This position, Forestry Specialist I (GIS Data Manager) - Temporary (Job Requisition #54325), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed more than half the time in a field setting involving exposure to all types of weather conditions and biting insects. Strength and agility are needed in traversing steep and rough terrain. Some work outside of regular working hours may be required. Strong and conflicting public opinions may be encountered. Must be comfortable working alone in remote areas and in a team environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Professional experience/coursework/degree in forestry or natural resources, GIS, or related field, including dendrology and forest measurements.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficient use of GPS/GIS.

Special Requirements

Valid driver's license required.
