We are seeking a full-time Program Director (MD or DO) to contribute to the development of and lead our ACGME-approved Anesthesia Residency program at Sutter Roseville Medical Center (SRMC) with CASE Medical Group, Inc. in Roseville, CA. Candidates currently serving as core faculty in an ACGME-accredited anesthesiology residency or related fellowship are highly encouraged to apply.

Thenew Anesthesia Residency program atSutter Roseville Medical Centerwill continue building and training full spectrum anesthesiologists in the highly competitive Northern California region, with the goal of expanding access to quality care in rural areas. The program will accept two classes of 10 residents each in the PGY1 Year and CA-1 year starting July 2024.

The Anesthesia Program Director will divide their time between clinical practice and programmatic responsibilities of the Anesthesia Residency Program. The Program Director will help recruitment efforts for the upcoming year and is responsible for developing educational curriculum with appropriate goals for residents in Anesthesiology. Develop an appropriate budget and faculty lineup (number of APDs, core faculty, faculty needed for residency to be successful at the agreed upon class size). Other duties consist of attending faculty meetings; clinical and didactic teaching; acting as a liaison to clinical departments; helping to develop/mentor core faculty and APD(s) for the residency program; advancing individual scholarly work and administrative responsibilities as appropriate.

Principal Accountabilities & Essential Job Functions:

The Program Director must have responsibility, authority, and accountability for: administration and operations; teaching and scholarly activity; resident recruitment and selection, evaluation, and promotion of residents, and disciplinary action; supervision of residents; and resident education in the context of patient care. Duties and time allotted in specific areas may shift over time.

Direct Patient Care 30%

The faculty member's primary clinical home will be in the ambulatory or acute care setting and clinical duties will be negotiated with clinical department heads in coordination with the DIO and CASE Medical Group leadership. Faculty will be responsible for providing 30% direct clinical care to patients.

Teaching 30%

Will maintain ongoing responsibilities for teaching residents and other areas of the Anesthesiology residency training program, including:

  • Serving as a teaching attending physician supervising residents and medical students.
  • Serving as a faculty mentor and model for residents.
  • Teaching regular didactic sessions in the Half Day Conference.
  • Evaluating trainee performance in the clinical setting.
  • Serving as a faculty advisor for specific residents throughout their three (3) years.
  • Leading and collaborating with residents on scholarly activities.
  • Serving as a course or content supervisor as dictated by residency need.

Administration 40%

The Program Director will work closely with the residency leadership to help lead and manage the residency. Responsibilities include:

  • Travel may be required to attend General and Specialty ACGME conferences or other organizational conferences.
  • Managing core curricular areas.
  • Participating in the selection process for new residents.

The Candidate:

Education/Certification/Licensure

  • Medical Degree: MD or DO is required.
  • Board certified in Anesthesiology is required (ABA or AOBA board certified or board eligible).

Professional Experience

  • Must have at least 3 years post-residency participation as an active faculty member in an ACGME-accredited anesthesia residency program.
  • Must have at least 3 years of graduate medical education administrative experience prior to appointment – APD, PD, or Core Faculty experience is a plus.
  • Prior experience and demonstrated increasing level of responsibility in management, preferably in an academic setting or organization.
