We have an immediate opportunity for a Biologist to support our established and still growing Hawaiian Islands team. The Biologist must be a current resident of the State of Hawaii and located on the island of O‘ahu. The primary focus for this position is conducting surveys and analysis to evaluate biological resources in relation to various projects throughout the Hawaiian Islands. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience conducting field biology surveys including, but not limited to, avian and other wildlife identification, habitat assessments, and bat acoustic surveys. The position would involve a combination of field work, data synthesis, writing, and potentially task management. 

 

Responsibilities:

·         Complete wildlife or biological surveys and habitat evaluations, including avian surveys, insect assessments, bat acoustic surveys, classifying vegetation communities, and identification of listed and rare species.

·         Synthesize and interpret biological information in order to analyze potential impacts of various projects on biological resources.

·         Coordinate biology tasks including field logistics and overseeing quality.

·         Prepare field survey reports, and assist with preparation of impact analyses, and mitigation and monitoring plans.

·         Direct or indirect experience with environmental due diligence studies, natural/biological resources management, ecological assessments, environmental impact analysis, and habitat conservation planning is a bonus.

·         Support project compliance with permit conditions related to various state and federal laws including the Endangered Species Act (ESA), NEPA and HEPA documents (EIS/EAs)

·         Support senior biologists and project managers with client and agency communication.

 

Qualifications:

·         Master's or Bachelor's degree in applicable field, such as biological science, wildlife ecology, environmental science, or natural resources management.

·         Minimum of 3 years of direct experience conducting field surveys and identifying wildlife in the Hawaiian Islands.

·         Experience with electronic data collection (e.g., ArcGis Field Maps, Garmin, Trimble).

·         Ability to travel/hike to field sites, and conduct fieldwork in remote locations and sometimes inclement weather and rugged terrain.

·         Must possess a valid driver's license and be able and willing to occasionally travel to other islands for field assignments.

·         Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, organizational and time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks.

·         Commitment to quality in both work processes and products, and willingness to assume new roles are critical.

·         Demonstrated experience preparing technical reports.

·         Currently a resident of the State of Hawaii and located on the island of O‘ahu.

·         Applied knowledge of ecological assessments, environmental impact analysis, environmental due diligence studies, natural/biological resources management, and habitat conservation planning a bonus.

·         Prior experience in private sector or environmental consulting is desirable.

·         A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.

·         Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restriction.
