Summary:

Tetra Tech is a leading provider of energy resilience, energy auditing, retro-commissioning, and other energy-related services to government clients.  Selected candidates will be integrated into our team framework to conduct energy and water resilience studies; perform investigations of
HVAC and plumbing equipment or power distribution systems, evaluate client electrical loads; investigate power, lighting, energy management control systems (EMCS)/direct digital control (DDC), or other energy-related systems to recommend advanced control strategies; identify energy conservation opportunities; propose on-site generation alternatives; and help facilitate the implementation of projects, initiatives, and programs that increase energy and water resilience, reduce energy consumption and demand, save money, and help the environment. Work tasks involve a combination of office duties and frequent field visits in and around various client facility sites.


Primary office duties may include:

  • Assessing power requirements and developing alternative solutions to improve required power at various sites
  • Assessing thermal resilience and developing solutions to improve thermal resilience at sites in both hot and cold climates
  • Assessing existing electrical infrastructure for repair, replacement and upgrade requirements
  • Assessing thermal requirements and developing alternative solutions to achieve required heating and cooling capacities at various sites
  • Developing facility energy conservation measures and efficiency improvements
  • Developing energy savings estimates through building energy modeling and other engineering calculations
  • Developing cost and payback analyses for identified initiatives
  • Maintaining detailed and accurate project records including data, documentation, and reports
  • Developing technical reports or portions of technical reports, at times under tight deadlines
  • Analyzing energy and utilities data
  • Performing design reviews and proposing recommendations for improvements
  • Recommending improvements to utility procurement and operations
  • Other related duties

Field work can be strenuous with long days. Roughly 0 to 25% travel required that includes overnight stays, usually less than a week at a time. Field duties include:

  • Conducting facility audits
  • Performing field inspections and functional performance tests
  • Reviewing operating modes, sequence of operations, and specifics of equipment, operations, and maintenance
  • Identifying energy and water conservation opportunities
  • Troubleshooting system operational issues that impact system operation and energy efficiency
  • Delivering technical presentations to clients
  • Effectively communicating with both client leadership and facility maintenance personnel
  • Meeting with clients
  • Managing onsite personnel, including subcontractors, to adapt to changing field conditions and still meet the objectives of the project

General project support duties include:

  • Working collaboratively to achieve results
  • Daily communication with team members
  • Daily meetings to coordinate work efforts to feed work seamlessly
  • Document deliverable management
  • Securing qualified resources to meet project objectives
  • Procuring subcontractors when necessary
  • Meeting or exceeding client expectations

Tetra Tech is seeking to build relationships with energy consultant and engineering candidates for current and future opportunities and positions.

The ideal candidate will have experience in energy or water resilience, power system design, power system studies, energy consulting, energy auditing, commissioning, or retro-commissioning engineering. Experience with project development, life-cycle cost analysis, direct digital controls, microgrid controls, and building/system optimization is highly desired. Previous experience working at Federal / Department of Defense facilities is a plus.


We are looking for future team members with a mix of:

  • Strong electrical distribution system background and experience on medium voltage systems up to 35 kVa
  • Strong HVAC and/or controls background
  • Knowledge and capabilities to perform investigation of electrical equipment and electrical distribution requirements
  • Knowledge and capabilities to perform investigation of HVAC equipment and EMCS/DDC systems to recommend and implement advanced control strategies
  • Knowledge and capabilities to size and provide on-site electrical generation capabilities with proper switching and isolation from the commercial grid
  • Knowledge of utility information systems, energy or water management technologies, and metering
  • Ability to communicate and work with all team members in a conscientious and inclusive way
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to produce results
  • Ability to produce technically correct finished work, including technical reports, white papers, metrics, and briefs
  • Proficient computer skills, including the use of spreadsheets, especially MS Excel, and other database applications

 

Experience with eQUEST, Energy Pro, or other modeling software is a plus.


BS in electrical or mechanical engineering or energy-related field is required, but equivalent demonstrated experience may be acceptable.


Possession of one or more of the following registrations or certifications is preferred:

  • Professional Engineer license
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE)
  • Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) from the AEE
  • Existing Building Commissioning Professional (EBCP) from the AEE
  • Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP) from the Building Commissioning Association (BCA)
  • Commissioning Process Management Professional (CPMP) from ASHRAE
  • Accredited Commissioning Process Authority Professional (ACPAP) from the University of Wisconsin

 

U.S. citizenship is required, and you must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Current security clearance, particularly Secret Clearance, is preferred.


The work environment will consist of an office environment, as well as frequent field visits in and around various client facility sites. You must be able to exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree, such as walking 2 to 3 miles in a day. You must be able to climb ladders, access roofs, and access narrow electrical or mechanical rooms.

 

Salary Range: $80,000 - $130,000

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the proposed salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance, as part of a compensation package.
