Your Role:

Tetra Tech, a leading environmental and management consulting firm, is seeking a Risk Assessor who can prepare and review human health and ecological risk assessments and assist in developing remedial strategies for brownfields and other sites where hazardous substances or petroleum pose a potential or known environmental or regulatory concern.  Specific experience in preparing risk assessments following technical guidance under the Ohio EPA Voluntary Action Program (VAP) is preferred.  The position is based out of our Cincinnati, Ohio office and we may consider remote applicants within the United States. The position would involve providing support on various environmental projects (primarily under Ohio EPA VAP and US EPA) throughout the Midwest, predominately within Ohio. This position will support a variety of contracts, including federal, state, and commercial clients.  The ideal candidate will have excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work successfully both independently and in team settings.

This position includes the following general responsibilities:

  • Support field surveys and assessments through data collection and evaluation of environmental conditions.
  • Analyze large environmental datasets.
  • Conduct statistical and spatial data analyses, and prepare tables, figures, and other exhibits.
  • Perform contaminant fate/transport and exposure modeling.
  • Review and interpret environmental and toxicological studies and reports.
  • Conduct human and ecological risk assessments in accordance with federal and state guidance, with emphasis on Ohio EPA VAP.
  • Prepare written documents such as letters, memoranda, proposals, work plans, and investigative reports.
  • Support remedial strategy development for contaminated sites.

Qualifications:

Must have 5 to 10+ years of environmental consulting or related experience.  Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and previous experience with completion of human health and/or ecological risk assessments under Ohio EPA VAP are preferred.  Understanding of due diligence and brownfield redevelopment processes and remediation strategies are a must.  Experience and knowledge of U.S. EPA, Ohio EPA VAP, and/or Ohio BUSTR are preferred. Previous private or public sector client management and business development experience a plus. 

  • Must possess strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Must also be highly motivated, customer focused, and work well in a team environment.
  • Must be able to drive and pass a motor vehicle records check.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (i.e., Word, Excel, Teams) also required.

Education and Certifications:

Bachelors Degree or Masters Degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field with a background in risk assessment is required.

OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER and 8-Hour refresher certifications.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to walk around project sites in all types of terrain and be physically able to carry up to 35 pounds of equipment.  Must be able to complete annual medical monitoring program.

Work Environment:

Role responsibilities will require occasional project site visits and field work, which could include overnight travel.  Site work may be completed outdoors within the U.S. during all seasons, including peak summer and winter conditions. We will consider remote applicants within the United States only.

The Salary Range for this position is $75,000 - $115,000, depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
