Tetra Tech is currently seeking a self-motivated, Entry-Level Environmental Scientist/Compliance Specialist to help expand our firm's operations. As an Environmental Scientist/Compliance Specialist, you will compare field site data to regulatory standards for compliance, interpret and follow regulations and regulatory permit conditions, write compliance reports, draft regulatory permits, and prepare calculations related to air emissions and other solid waste industry operations. Areas of compliance will include landfill gas monitoring, leachate collection systems, landfill gas-to-energy systems, air quality monitoring and permitting, solid waste facility permitting including landfills and other waste operations, composting operations, other general permitting in assistance to engineering for construction projects, and New Source Performance Standards (NSPS)/National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Pollutants (NESHAP) compliance services and reporting.

This position will primarily be remote, with very limited travel or on-site work required. The work hours for this position are PST business hours. Only those located in Pacific, Mountain, and Central time zones will be considered. Candidates should be comfortable working independently with limited supervision while collaborating effectively with a dispersed team. This position is eligible for our full benefits package including but not limited to Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, AD&D, Disability, Flexible Spending Account (FSA), Health Spending Account (HSA), My Flex Time (MFT - paid time off), 401K, and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. The pay range for this position is $50K-$75K annually, based on qualifications, location, and experience. Only those that attach a cover letter will be considered. Your Role:

  • Analyze reports, maps, drawings, environmental data, and aerial photographs

  • Prepare environmental compliance reports, tables, and other regulatory submittals

  • Assist in the preparation of permit applications including emissions estimates and compliance analysis

  • Collect, manage/track, and analyze monitoring and field data (air emissions, landfill gas data, SEM, etc.)

  • Develop templates, trackers, and tools to ensure timely reporting

  • Coordinate with on-site personnel to ensure monitoring, testing, and equipment meet regulatory standards

  • Support project managers with deliverables, schedules, and client coordination including procurement of supplies, subcontractor coordination and Work Order development

  • Contribute to multidisciplinary teams on engineering, permitting, and environmental projects

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing

  • Proficiency in MS Office – specifically Word and Excel

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment, including collaborating effectively in a remote setting and demonstrating initiative when working with limited supervision

  • Valid driver's license

  • Ability for some required travel

  • Ability to develop leadership skills

     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 to 5 years of experience in environmental science, compliance, or engineering

  • Experience in the solid waste industry (landfills, composting operations, gas-to-energy systems) or similar sectors a plus
