Project Summary:

The purpose of “Public Accountability and Justice Strengthening” (PAJ) activity is to support Jordanian efforts to enhance accountability systems, procedures, and mechanisms within the government of Jordan and judicial institutions and enhance their ability to serve and communicate effectively with the public. It also fosters awareness and pressure by civil society organizations, the public, and the private sector on the government's adherence to the law and its international commitments to govern in an accountable manner that safeguards the rights of vulnerable populations. Position Summary:

The Governance and Human Rights Coordinator will be a part of USAID's Jordan Public Accountability and Justice Strengthening Activity (PAJ) team and will carry out duties designed to meet the objectives of the project. The Governance and Human Rights Coordinator will report to the Component 3 Team Leader.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support technical activities to improve the Government of Jordan's (GOJ) ability to respond to public demand for transparency, rule of law and protection of human rights.
  • Assist the Component 3 Team Leader in developing and following up on work plan activities and updates.
  • Develop and oversee policy-related and legislative support activities under Component 3, including selected research, analysis, policy development support, training and strategic analysis.
  • Oversee technical activities to improve communication and information exchange between partner institutions.
  • Provide support with the management and oversight of grantees and Civil Society Organization (CSO) partners.
  • Coordinate and lead trainings and other activities to improve the capacity of GOJ and CSO stakeholders.
  • Formulate and coordinate efforts in drafting initiatives.
  • Plan and coordinate the support and advocacy for reforming efforts with local efforts.
  • Provide logistical and organizational support to short-term experts and local partners.
  • Assist in preparing Component 3 weekly, quarterly, and annual reports as well as other reports and deliverables as requested.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Component 3 Team Leader or PAJ senior management.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as law, business, or public administration required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum seven years of experience in supporting initiatives and executing activity implementation with government entities and civil society organizations required.
  • Experience overseeing consultants and subcontractors.
  • Strong familiarity with the landscape of CSO, human rights, and related legislations.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and writing skills.
  • Fluency in Arabic and proficiency in English required.
