The Opportunity

Tetra Tech, an industry leader in engineering and consulting, is seeking candidates for a full-time Hazardous Waste Program Lead position at NASA Stennis Space Center. This role will require daily interaction with NASA personnel and oversight of hazardous waste compliance activities.

Your Role:

•    Serve as the lead for hazardous waste management, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding hazardous and controlled waste.
•    Manage all hazardous waste facilities, including preparation of permit applications and reports for solid waste management activities.
•    Conduct inspections and assessments of hazardous waste accumulation sites to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
•    Oversee the sampling and characterization of hazardous waste for analysis at state-certified laboratories.
•    Develop, implement, and maintain the Center-wide hazardous waste contingency plan and waste minimization plan.
•    Prepare and submit required reports, including hazardous waste generator activity reports and annual waste minimization efforts.
•    Provide training on hazardous waste management to staff and stakeholders, ensuring all training materials are current with regulations.
•    Coordinate with site personnel to ensure proper management, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements.
•    Working knowledge of hazardous and solid waste management, and Occupations Safety Health Administration Hazard Communication Standard found in 29 CFR 1910.
•    Current HAZWOPER (40 CFR 2626.17, 29 CFR 1910.120), RCRA (40 CFR 262.17,), DOT Training (49 CFR 172.704), and Forklift training is required for this position.
•    Training would be available for staff unfamiliar with some of these requirements.

 Qualifications:

•    Bachelor of Science degree in environmental engineering, science, or related field is required
•    8+ years of direct experience managing hazardous waste is required
•    Current HAZWOPER (40 CFR 2626.17, 29 CFR 1910.120), RCRA (40 CFR 262.17,), DOT Training (49 CFR 172.704), and Forklift training is required for this position.
•    Knowledge of Mississippi environmental regulations is required
•    Knowledge of NASA environmental guidelines, systems, and processes is preferred
•    Must possess a valid driver's license. 
•    Must be detail oriented to properly document all environmental compliance activities occurring across the contract.  

This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.
