Your Role:
We are currently seeking a Junior Civil/Structural Designer for our Power Division. A junior Designer provides direct support to the Civil/Structural Engineering Department. Candidates will perform design and technical calculations, construction details as well as drawings and diagrams related to project requirements. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Responsibilities:
- Perform design and technical calculations, material lists, construction details, and drawings for equipment support structures relating to the overhead and underground transmission/distribution system
- Prepare complex and complete drawings using AutoCAD, Microstation, Civil 3D or Microstation InRoads
- Complete structural design calculations and drawings for engineers review for equipment support structures and foundations
- Prepare technical specifications for project design materials
- Exercise initiative in completing recurring assignments independently and applying judgement in determining the most efficient methods to complete tasks
- Prepare bill of materials for cost estimates
- Communicate with other design disciplines to complete multidiscipline design tasks.
- The candidate will be capable of committing to and maintaining project timelines while working on multiple projects simultaneously
- The ability to document and track project tasks and related design documents is required (strong organizational skills)
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited institute program in Civil Engineering Technology or Technician with OACETT Certification
- Minimum 2+ years of relevant design/drafting experience in consulting and/or utility environment
- Must be proficient in AutoCAD and/or Microstation
- Knowledge and working experience related to civil/structural design codes
- Computer knowledge in MS Office Suite
- Ability to work in team environment
- Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively when managing multiple tasks
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience in the design of heavy industrial structures (steel, concrete, wood, masonry), preferably in the power distribution industry, and Consulting Engineering experience is desirable
- Knowledge of electrical substations, transmission lines, and associated steel structures and concrete foundations is an asset
- Working experience in 3D design software would be considered an asset
The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $80,000. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
