Tuvalu and Australia Partnership for Quality Education (TAPQE) program

Nauru and Tuvalu Education Support (NATU) is administered by Tetra Tech International Development, on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The Tuvalu and Australia Partnership for Quality Education (TAPQE) program aims to strengthen education sector performance and Australia's Pacific relationships, driving shared prosperity and progress. TAPQE has a focus on stronger literacy and numeracy outcomes; more equitable and relevant education pathways; and more inclusive, evidence-based and efficient government systems. The program is tailored to the local cultural context and government priorities through Tuvalu's Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD), and stakeholders, including teachers, school and community leaders, and parents. Delivery will occur within a constrained operating environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver a high quality, contextualised numeracy program for the Early Years, Primary and Secondary.
  • Working collaboratively with team members to develop professional development modules and teaching resources, including exemplar lessons.
  • Present professional development modules, face to face and through use of videos, and provide in-class modelling, support, and feedback to year 1-10 teachers. This will involve travel and stays on the outer islands.
  • Support team members with the review and implementation of the Primary 1-10 Mathematic Curriculum and contribute to the implementation of Teacher Guides.
  • Develop high quality strategic activity plans and reports related to numeracy activities.

Selection criteria

  • A relevant graduate or post graduate qualification.
  • A minimum of 10 years' teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence as a highly effective teacher of numeracy using a student-centered approach.
  • Demonstrated experience in data informed practices.
  • Prior experience in the delivery of professional development workshops.
  • English language proficiency as demonstrated by either completion of tertiary studies at an institution which uses English as the medium of instruction, or experience studying or working in an English-speaking country.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Australian Government Aid Program and other relevant DFAT policies, and ability to provide coherent reports to meet DFAT quality reporting requirements.
