The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is adding an On-Call Field Biologist to assist with wetlands, wildlife, and botanical surveys primarily across Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada. This role supports ecological and environmental studies related to energy development projects. Assignments may also occur in Utah, Texas, and other states nationwide.
This is an on-call position with flexible hours ranging from 0 to 40+ per week, depending on project workload. The role requires following standardized protocols, ensuring accurate data collection, and collaborating effectively with team members.

Your Role:
- Conduct field surveys for wetlands, wildlife, and botanical resources in accordance with established protocols.
- Collect and record data using GPS units, field tablets, and data collection software (e.g., ESRI Field Maps, Survey123).
- Assist with report writing, data management, and other biology-related project tasks.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with supervisors, project managers, and fellow team members.
- Follow all safety guidelines for working in remote, rugged, and challenging environmental conditions.
- Perform work in various weather conditions and terrains, including extreme heat, wind, and precipitation.
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
- Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
- Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
- Additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Biology, Environmental Science, Wildlife Management, or related field preferred (experience may substitute).
- Demonstrated experience in wildlife, botanical, or wetlands ecology fieldwork—preferably in Arizona and the Southwest.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and basic business software.
- Familiarity with GIS tools (e.g., Field Maps, Survey123) preferred.
- Willingness to work in remote locations and rugged terrain.
- Ability to carry up to 35+ lbs. of gear and hike up to 10 miles per day.
- Knowledge of Desert Tortoise (Sonoran and Mojave), Cactus Ferruginous Pygmy Owl, and other special-status species preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Compensation:
Pay commensurate with experience.
Pay Range: $18.00-$25.00 hourly
Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role; skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
