The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech's Phoenix, AZ office is currently seeking a Principal Cultural Resource Consultant (Consultant) with expertise in developing innovative cultural and natural resource planning and permitting solutions through strategic evaluation of the client's goals and regulatory frameworks. The Consultant responsibilities include coordinating with regulatory agencies and project proponents on project requirements, growing Tetra Tech's cultural resource presence in the Southwest U.S., permit and related document preparation, managing projects, working collaboratively with Tetra Tech operating units, and assisting and leading in the pursuit of new work through business development tasks. Success will be measured in the Consultants ability to grow revenue, team capabilities, and client relationships

Essential Job Functions:

  • Rapidly integrate yourself into Tetra Tech to understand and leverage Tetra Tech's diverse resources and service offerings in your associated practice area.

  • Collaborate with operations and technical focused team members to advance business development, project implementation, and practice area strategies and goals.

  • Work with operational leadership to define your key technical practice areas, supporting team composition and size, and revenue growth goals.

  • Provide senior leadership support to Tetra Tech's overall natural resource, permitting, and planning practice with a focus on cultural resource program development across the Southwest U.S. Leadership support includes regional cultural resource program oversight, business strategy development, client engagement, opportunity identification and pursuit, and team member education and mentoring.

  • Provide services that result in clients' desire to continue and grow their business relationships with Tetra Tech.

  • Actively participate with local and regional project teams to develop strategic client and opportunity capture plans and successfully implement those plans.

  • Work toward being known within Tetra Tech as a go-to team member for your core resource services for the region.

  • Work with Tetra Tech's related resource team members both in your home operating unit and as opportunities arise, with adjoining operating units including those with different practices in the value chain (i.e. engineering design, data management) to perform analysis of account potential, market share, and remaining winnable opportunities.

  • Other activities will include proposal preparation and project implementation.

  • Engage and retain relationships with commercial industrial, financial, law and energy firms, and state, federal, and local government to facilitate opportunity generation.

  • Manage projects and mentor junior team members to meet project scope, schedule and budget objectives. Where scope modifications require client approvals, promptly and clearly present client with scope modification justifications and impact on project budget and schedule to receive approvals.

  • Capitalize on industry relationships/expertise/professional network to maintain and establish new relationships and ensure they are managed for growth.

  • Attract and assist in recruiting key talent who fit with Tetra Tech's entrepreneurial culture and team approach.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • M.A. degree in Anthropology.

  • Twenty years of direct experience in the cultural resource and natural resource (biological and physical) compliance, permitting, and baseline assessment practice area with more recent experience providing innovative sustainable solutions that set apart you as a strategic partner to your clients.

  • Registered Professional Archaeologist.

  • Principal Investigator recognized by Arizona and other surrounding states.

  • Experience mentoring junior team members and being responsible for the operational success of a practice area program or group.

  • Demonstrated experience generating revenue that meet levels typically associated with a principal level consultant.

  • Experience working across disciplines to develop interdisciplinary solutions for a variety of market segments and cross selling services outside of the candidate's technical focus area.

  • Experience working collaboratively with regulatory agencies to successfully receive approvals on key infrastructure and mitigation projects.

  • Ability to delegate project and operation tasks to more junior team members to effectively utilize candidate's strengths is essential.

  • Skilled in oral and written communication with demonstrated ability developing and delivering effective presentations to customers and management.

  • Maintains a cultural resource Principal Investigator status with most federal and state agencies requiring specific permit qualifications in the Southwest U.S., particularly in Arizona.

  • A Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Anthropology preferred but not required.

  • Familiarity with collaborating on recruitment needs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 30 pounds across uneven terrain in all weather conditions.

  • Ability to travel to business functions as well as various client and office locations (approx. 25% -50% of travel required).

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:

  • This position may have a hybrid work arrangement to be worked out with your supervisor, but the candidate must reside within 145 miles of the local Phoenix, AZ office. This arrangement is subject to review and may change at the company's discretion.

  • Frequent periods of time sitting or standing at a desk and using a computer. Occasional periods of time walking, lifting, and bending.

  • Occasional periods of time working outside in various weather conditions. 

Additional Information:

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday work schedule (40 hours). Occasionally extended hours may be required based on project and/or client needs.

  • Work will be primarily performed in an office setting with periodic travel by vehicle or airplane to business meetings. Occasional field work may be required for oversight
