Mekong-Australia Partnership Support Unit (MAP)
The objective of the Mekong-Australia Partnership Support Unit (MAP SU) is to provide efficient and effective support and enabling services, and delivery of selected MAP activities as directed by the Mekong Hub at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand to ensure that Australia is a trusted and reliable partner in supporting a resilient, inclusive and sustainable Mekong subregion. The Support Unit will deliver the Leadership and Skills program and enabling services for the Transnational Crime program. It will also support programming by providing administrative, logistical and/or technical support and assistance in the execution of parts of Mekong-Australia Partnership (MAP) such as organising events, conducting training or managing specific components of program delivery.
The Leadership and Skills multi-year program is a strategic, cross-cutting investment designed to deepen Australia's economic and security ties with the Mekong subregion (including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam) by facilitating access to Australian education and professional learning, and promotion of knowledge sharing and subregional cooperation. The Leadership and Skills program contributes to MAP portfolio outcomes by supporting diverse Mekong subregion leaders apply their skills and capabilities to contribute to development across MAP thematic areas and pursue joint, inclusive solutions to shared and transboundary challenges. With strategic guidance from the Mekong Hub and the Leadership and Skills Thematic Working Group, the program will deliver scholarships, short courses, masterclasses, regional dialogues, on-award and alumni engagement activities, including alumni grants
About the role
We're seeking a Scholar and Alumni Engagement Manager to lead regional alumni and scholar engagement for the Mekong Australia Partnership. This role manages outreach, professional development, grants, and networking to build a connected alumni community and oversees the Mekong Leaders Network program. Working closely with the team, the Manager ensures inclusive, impactful programs aligned with Australia's regional cooperation and DFAT priorities, while promoting value-for-money delivery and integrating gender equality, disability, and social inclusion principles.
Key responsibilities
- Design and lead the annual alumni engagement plan with input from Mekong Posts, covering Mekong Leaders Network, professional groups, and alumni grants.
- Manage the implementation of all MAP scholar and alumni engagement activities.
- Oversee the Mekong Leaders Network contract to ensure successful program delivery.
- Administer MAP's alumni grant program, including grant management and reporting support.
- Coordinate regional alumni activities, such as professional groups and other development opportunities.
- Develop, maintain, and update the alumni database, working closely with AA-MAP regional, Short Course, and Events teams for effective data sharing.
- Collaborate with the Tetra Tech Communications team to produce promotional materials and media highlighting the MAP alumni program.
- Plan and support stakeholder consultations to align alumni engagement strategies with MAP objectives.
- Manage alumni participation in regional events, including handling logistics and travel arrangements.
- Ensure all alumni engagement activities comply with DFAT's safeguarding, GEDSI principles, and communication standards.
Selection criteria
- Degree in communications, international development, public policy, education, or related fields; postgraduate qualification preferred.
- 3–5 years' experience in alumni engagement, scholarship programs, or development initiatives, ideally in donor-funded settings.
- Proven skills in delivering alumni activities, stakeholder outreach, and event coordination.
- Experience managing grants to ensure effective, efficient, and fraud-free delivery.
- Strong program coordination, project management, and ability to handle competing priorities.
- Excellent writing, editing, and digital communication skills, including social media and content development.
- Cultural competency with strong interpersonal skills to work sensitively across diverse backgrounds.
- Commitment to gender equality, disability inclusion, safeguarding, and high ethical standards; proficiency in Thai and English.
