Tetra Tech is seeking a secondary operator responsible for Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of a Water Treatment Plant with a maximum treatment capacity of approximately 100 gallons per day of contaminated groundwater at a remediation site in Middle River, Maryland. The groundwater treatment system consists of 16 groundwater extraction wells and extraction pumps, groundwater conveyance piping, a 10,200 square-foot building housing the groundwater treatment system, and treated water discharge piping with submerged outfall diffusers in the adjacent surface water body. Groundwater treatment includes physical-chemical metals removal, media filtration, advanced oxidation, air stripping, liquid and vapor phase granular activated carbon (GAC) filtration, solids dewatering, and ancillary equipment such as tanks, transfer pumps, air compressor, and instrumentation. This position requires the employee to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

Your Role:

 Perform system maintenance and cleaning as necessary to maintain effective and safe system operation. Make necessary repairs to system equipment, tanks, pumps, piping (both above and below ground), valves, instruments, controls, electrical, and mechanical components as required or through oversight of specialized subcontractors when necessary. Make repairs in a timely manner and maintain equipment to keep the system operating as designed. Provide proper preventive maintenance on all equipment as recommended by the equipment manufacturers necessary to keep the system in optimum operational condition and minimize unscheduled downtime. Other duties include: 
•    Operate and maintain both the liquid phase carbon filters and vapor phase carbon units such that the freshest carbon is in the lag position. 
•    Manage, store, handle, transport, and dispose of all process waste materials in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations. 
•    Maintain a minimum of 95% plant runtime. 
•    Maintain the site in an orderly, clean condition. 

Qualifications:

•    High School Diploma or equivalent is required. 
•    A minimum of 10 years of experience operating treatment systems with similar process units. 

•    Individual must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to pass a background check to allow access to a military facility (access to the plant is via a National Guard facility).
•    A State of Maryland Class 2 (or higher) Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator license, certified by the Maryland Board of Waterworks and Waste Systems Operators is desirable but not mandatory.
•    Must have completed the OSHA 40-hour health and safety training, OSHA 8-hour Supervisory Training, and the annual 8-hour refresher training.

  • : Skill in the operation and repair of pumps, valves, motors and related machinery and equipment; ability to read, understand and accurately record data from meters, gauges and scales. Have the ability to work on and prioritize a variety of technical assignments and complete work satisfactorily and on schedule.
