Your Role:

 

Our Bloomington, MN office is seeking a highly motivated individual who will help support our large renewable energy development projects in the upper Midwest. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting a variety of our natural resource projects, with a primary focus on leading a field team to perform wetland delineations. A multidisciplinary science-based background and prior field experience of a similar nature is desired. Fieldwork may take place in a variety of environmental settings, potentially including working for long durations away from home, or working on foot in remote or uneven terrain. Work may be performed in a wide variety of weather conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties as Field Team Lead for wetland delineations in accordance with current USACE 1987 Manual and Regional Supplement(s).
  • Perform natural resource surveys (e.g., wetlands, streams, vegetation).
  • Collect GPS data.
  • Perform and oversee data entry, data analysis, and report writing.
  • Field components may require long hours and/or be physically demanding and may require being on foot 10–12 hours per day carrying equipment.
  • Support local, state and federal project permitting.
  • Potential to assist or perform other natural resource surveys (e.g., habitat, functional assessments, aquatic resources, RTE species, and invasive species).
  • Potential to assist with other environmental due diligence and compliance tasks (e.g., Phase I ESA and Critical Issues Analysis)

Qualifications:

  • Must have 1-3 years of environmental consulting or related experience. Minimum 1 year of experience leading wetland delineation teams. Experience with local, state and federal project permitting is not required, but would be beneficial.
  • Must possess strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills (both written and verbal). This position requires preparation of technical environmental reports. The ideal candidate will have strong technical writing skills. Providing a writing sample for review may be requested.
  • This position requires you to be able to drive with no restrictions and pass a motor vehicle background check.
  • The ideal candidate must be highly motivated, client focused, work well in a team environment, work well under pressure, and adapt to changing workloads. Excellent client interaction and organizational skills, as well as proficiency with MS Office applications, including Word and Excel, required.
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and/or experience with ESRI Survey123 and Field Maps preferred. Project management experience is not required but may be beneficial.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Biology, Ecology, Soil Science, Hydrology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related degree.
  •  
  • Wetland delineation certification (MWPCP or PWS) preferred.

 

Physical Demands:

Candidate must be able to walk around project sites and must be physically able to carry up to 25 pounds of equipment such as GPS antenna, tablet, and shovel or soil probe during field work. Field activities take place in a variety of weather conditions, and can occur in remote locations and include areas of uneven terrain. The work environment will consist of a mix of office and field work, with some field work requiring overnight stays and work on weekends.

 

Work Environment:

Local and out-of state travel for field surveys will be required. Travel requirements may include day-long projects that do not require overnight stays for small projects. For larger projects extended travel of 5 to 10 days is typical, but may be up to 14 days. Position is typically less than 25 percent travel, but may be 50 to 75 percent travel during the fall. Work locations are typically in rural areas, and occur in any season and in any weather. Office work when not traveling is typically on-site with some opportunities for remote work.
