The CFL Stewardship and Fire Program Manager is responsible for leading TNC's fire and stewardship efforts within the CFL project area, with special focus on Benning REPI lands that are co-managed by TNC and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GADNR). The CFL Stewardship and Fire Program Manager leads and participates in the development and implementation of comprehensive land management plans for the REPI landscape and parcels. This role oversees TNC's prescribed fire program in the CFL and plays a leadership role (burn boss) on burns in the CFL and works closely with GADNR and Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) and other partners in collaborative, coordinated fashion. They are responsible for development of burn plans, the readiness of burn units in the area, fire equipment, vehicles, and storage areas, and evaluating burns in the CFL. They plan and coordinate additional stewardship actions such as (but not limited to) timber stand improvement and plantings. The CFL Stewardship and Fire Program Manager provides technical and management expertise to other Conservancy programs and partners in fire management. They build and maintain relationships with partners ranging from community groups, educational institutions and state and federal partners in achieving TNC's goals. The CFL Stewardship and Fire Program Manager supervises one or more CFL-based staff, contractors, volunteers, interns and seasonal employees.
We're Looking for You:Want to help save the planet? The Chattahoochee Fall Line Stewardship and Fire Program Manager directs some or all aspects of prescribed fire, conservation science, land stewardship and associated stakeholder relations for the CFL program area in west central Georgia and east central Alabama. They will have a leadership role within the multi-disciplinary CFL program team as well as TNC's Georgia program and TNC's prescribed fire program. The position works from the Mauk, Georgia office and reports to the CFL Program Director. What You'll Bring:- BA/BS degree and 5 years' experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Supervisory / leadership experience.
- Knowledge of land management conservation practice and conservation science.
- RXB2 (Burn Boss) qualified to National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) level.
- Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including staffing, workloads and finances under deadlines.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook). . Experience with ESRI GIS software.
- Experience in training and curriculum design.
- Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies
- Experience negotiating.
- Reside within 45 minute drive from our office in Mauk, Georgia.
- Prior TNC work experience preferred.
- Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- 5-7 years' experience in conservation practice or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans.
- Knowledge of current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and regions.
- Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives or related field.
- Knowledge of forest management and restoration, especially within the context of the historic longleaf pine ecosystem.
- Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising.
This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC's Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers." Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.
Salary Information:The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $57,700 - $72,000. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
