This Senior Attorney will independently provide high-value legal services on complex matters to advance priorities and appropriately manage risk to assigned programs. They will apply highly developed analytical and risk management skills to serve organizational needs efficiently and effectively, and clearly articulate complex legal concepts and options to project managers, high-level managers and the Board of Directors. They will also ensure that transactions and activities are legally sound and consistent with the organization's mission, authority, policies, and procedures. They will need to travel occasionally and work long or flexible hours as needed.

This is a remote position based preferably in the Western US or California.

Come join TNC's growing legal team to support the Chapter that manages TNC's endowment to advance the mission. As a Senior Attorney, you will provide high-value legal services on complex matters around the world to advance TNC's priorities and appropriately manage risk.

As Senior Attorney, we are looking for a motivated individual capable of working independently providing high-value legal services to the organization.  You will be our go-to person in providing sound legal advice and risk management. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the ongoing mission of conservation by directing and shaping the work of our Legal team!

What You'll Bring:
  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent and license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. 

  • 7 years relevant legal experience as an attorney.  

  • Experience negotiating real estate transactions (acquisitions, dispositions, easements) and complex, sensitive or high-profile agreements. 

  • In-house experience and/or law firm experience advising sophisticated clients and senior management. 

Desired Qualifications
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural experience appreciated. 

  • Experience managing other attorneys and/or legal support staff. 

  • Experience in one or more of the following legal subjects: , environmental due diligence and liability, commercial contracts, technology and intellectual property, commercial or real estate dispute resolution, Indian law and indigenous sovereignty, grants and public funding, tax-exempt and nonprofit organizations and related tax issues. 

  • Experience developing, directing and managing multiple projects and implementing strategic program goals.  

Salary Information:

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $125,000 - $195,000. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
