Summary of Job Duties: The Advanced Practice Nurse/Physician Assistant (APRN/PA) will be a vital member of the Hepatology/Gastroenterology Team within the Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). This provider will assist physicians with clinic operations, organize patient visits, and perform clinic procedures. They will also serve as a high-level clinical extender, working both independently and collaboratively with supervising physicians to manage patient care across inpatient and outpatient settings. The APRN/PA will perform clinical assessments, assist with care coordination, answer MyChart and in-basket messages, respond to patient questions and phone calls, and manage prescriptions. In the outpatient clinic they will see new and follow up patients follow up on pathology and imaging, and ensure patients receive comprehensive education and appropriate follow-up. The provider must possess a high level of clinical expertise to assess, diagnose, and treat actual and potential problems in patients. The APRN/PA will serve as a key communicator between the care team and patients, ensuring timely, complete, and accurate information sharing.
Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Nursing
• Three years of nursing experience
• Acute Care Certification
• Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas
• APRN License

Responsibilities:

• APRN/PA will manage health issues for patients, independently or in collaboration with the designated physicians. Other duties may be assigned to expand and improve patient care.
• The APRN/PA will be expected to provide comprehensive health assessments, determine diagnoses, implement treatment plans, prescribe medical treatments, and manage health issues for patients in collaboration with the designated physician(s).
• The APRN/PA will work autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of medical professionals and individuals.
• The APRN/PA will extend the patient care and administrative services of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences physicians in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• The APRN/PA will supervise their assigned group with duties that include but are not limited to: conducting annual evaluations, approving final schedules, participating in disciplinary issues, and collaborating with service line physicians and nursing administration to best allocate APRN resources.
• The APRN/PA will work autonomously, as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals, to diagnose and manage patients' healthcare problems; and will serve as a healthcare resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate.
• The APRN/PA will also coordinate the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consults, assuring that care is timely and appropriate.
• Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed.
• Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary.
• Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments; follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines.
• Assists internal and external stakeholders, as needed, with exceptional customer service.
• Other duties as assigned.
